get ready y'all for some angst 😔🤘

when he woke up, everyone was clamoring around, and panic was arising. they were screaming and hurrying to go somewhere, abandoning their work immediately. stalls were fallen down, and chaos seemingly reigned throughout the village.

taehyun went out of his room to peek at the window immediately to see jimin and taehyung on mikoneus's back, the centaur galloping quick. he rushes to open the door, not caring about his appearance and looks at them in confusion.

“what's wrong?” he asked them, and the three of them were shaking, but jimin's was more noticeable.

mikoneus spoke first, “the..plaza. the fifth one this week.”

those two words were enough to drive taehyun insane. he knows exactly what was going to happen if mikoneus mentions the plaza.

taehyun somehow knew about this, but he ignored it. dammit, i'm straying away. is it getting worse..?

“you better hurry; it's only about time, taehyun-ah. you can save them, no matter who it is,” taehyung says, holding a crying jimin. the boy nodded and went to get dressed, wearing a dark, hooded cloak to disguise himself underneath his usual clothing. he nods to the soulmates, “stay here at my house to be safe. if you two are going at the plaza, it's going to be dangerous.”

jimin got up, looking at taehyun wih horror, “no, taehyun, you're not going alone.”

“he can do it himself, jimin,” the centaur said. taehyun smiles, albeit a bit sadly, before taehyung carries jimin and going inside of the hut. the doctor looks at the centaur, and nodded at them.

he got onto mikoneus, and they went to the plaza almost hurriedly. taehyun had this recurring nightmare of this happening, and didn't expect it to happen almost hours later.

“we need to hide, doctor,” they said as they stopped underneath a tree, giving a good view of what's happening without anyone noticing them.

“what for, mikoneus? this is an alarming event that is about to happen, and you told me it was the fifth one this week,” he said, lowering his voice to a whisper.

“find all the children and keep them safe in your house. they're definitely going to hunt for them after this.”

the centaur nodded and went away, and taehyun climbs up the tree and sat on a branch, and he felt exhausted. he watched as he heard a knight coming up and announcing on a parchment of paper, and two other knights brought up a chained woman with a her hair cut up to her shoulders, screaming to be let go.

oh dear. he knew who this woman was, and why she was being executed; this woman is lee sunmi. the queen's lover.

he knew that she also practices magic, and is a famous performer at taverns and she attracts a lot of fans, and one of them was definitely the queen. it was scamdalous at best, but taehyun felt guilty for the sin he never committed, and it is a sin to love a person of the same gender. he was glad that he lives in lashano and lockechapel.

he feels..pity. he can do something, but that would put him into a huge risk.

“are there any last words that you want to say before you go, madam?” asked the knight, who was the announcer earlier. for some reason, taehyun recognized this voice. it was the “angel knight” that the people always like. he tilts his head when he saw sunmi look directly into his eyes, smiling a coy smile.

“you know what to do,” she announced loudly, “and make sure that yeon-hee is alright. tell her that i love her so much.”

it was obvious that it was taehyun she was talking to, but no one noticed him smiling amongst the shadows.

a man shouts, “go and do the honors, ser min.”

tears start to stream down on her face as she stopped resisting. he sensed that the angel knight was frowning and gave her a warm embrace and whispered something to her before sunmi smiles a sad smile.

she was being tied to a stake, and the knights set it on fire after placing some wood. the fire caught onto her white garments and she screamed, her scream loud enough to pierce the heart. the villagers cry, and taehyun needed to act quick.

shit.

he looks at the people on the stage. there was four knights, an one of them didn't have his helmet on. he recognized this as the king's aide. he saw the king was also there, wearing a bitter but smug face.

and beside him? beomgyu.

taehyun widens his eyes. what is he doing there? why would he be at lockechapel unless-

unless he was the prince.

it made sense now. it made sense why he had a rapier that was rare and definitely expensive, and why he had a handgun. he never noticed how important the ring and bracelet he wore. he thought it was just an accessory. and that's why he looked like nobility...

taehyun doesn't have a preference for the monarchy. he had two choices, and it's either to go to chevaria, or to stay.

he had to stay, of course, for lashano.

he felt himself crying, too, as he watched the woman cry and scream as she was being burned at the stake. he starts crying when he realized how beomgyu had betrayed him. how he was the son of a fucking mass murderer.

taehyun closed his eyes tightly, and sunmi seemingly fell unconscious. he started to sob softly, covering his face. sadness covered the forest, and it looked gloomy.

it was until then, the stage of the plaza cracked loudly, and it was deafening. it surprised many people and they started to disperse, screaming wih fear as fire spread throughout the plaza.

taehyun went back home, and didn't see how terrified beomgyu was, because he didn't know what happened.

chaos breeds chaos.
