Chapter 12

Tris' POV

Luke gripped my arm tightly as we trekked slowly through the woods. I had started pouting and made my voice crack a bit when I spoke just to break him down so that I or we, could go outside.

"If I let go for a second and hold your hand, will you run away?" Luke's eyes swirled with a small sadness.

"Perhaps. I don't think it's too likely though."

His eyes inspected me. As if he was tracing every part of my face.

Then, he let go of my arm for a second or so and my pace slowed a bit. I glanced over at him giving a questioning look, before he quickly but gently grabbed my hand.

"Where's your family?"

I was a bit taken aback by his question. It wasn't like any other he had asked, and so simple. It was something anyone would ask me.

I shrug, "I'm not sure. I moved out when I was 16 with Kenzie. A month or so later they told me they were moving to America. I wasn't given any specific location."

I slightly cringe thinking of my family. I never really liked them. Or half of them...

"Who's in your family?"

"I'm assuming you mean siblings and parents. I lived with my mom and dad. I had no siblings."

Luke had this small glint of curiosity in his eyes, that made them twinkle a slightly bit more.

"Tell me more about them. Or like, what it was like growing up with them."

"Well, um... I dunno. I was close with my mom until I got to the age of around nine, ten. I can't remember. Once I got to around that age, I began to realize just how much of a bitch she really was. It got worse when I was eleven.

"She would become more fussy about everything. I began to slowly push her away. But only in the way that kids around that age usually do. At that time, I had a tablet. It was my life, the only thing that I really cared about. And she knew it.

"She would always threaten to take it away or whatever. It was really stupid. I would shrug, she would take it away claiming I gave her attitude. Even if she's asking for my opinion. But it always stressed me out because I had many social medias and I'm sure she doesn't know half of them exist. The ones she does know exist, I wasn't allowed to have.

"Later in that time period, she would push me to go to meetings or presentations. She would tell me that if I didn't go.... Everyone would hate me, no one would like me, and that I was so boring that I would be alone for the wrest of my life.

"I mean of course I never believed her, but I mean... You know? And my dad was always at work when this happened. I would tell him about it and he would always offer to go talk to her about it, but I never let him. It'd be pointless.

"Other than that, I was pretty close to my dad. I loved him more than my mom. I don't really know what else to say."

I looked back over at Luke, and saw that he looked pretty fricken mad. There was no need to be though. It's all in the past. I got over it. I untangled my fingers from his, and turned to face his arm.

I put my leaned my head against him still facing his side, and wrapped my arms around his stomach in an awkward hug.

I guess it calmed his down because next thing you know, I'm squished against his chest in a tight embrace. I thought my bones would crack or something, but I mean of course they didn't.

"Are you satisfied enough with the amount of time you got to spend outside?"

"Meah." Was all I could manage, considering my mouth was squished.

"Meah eh hinhk em hood."
