When Sunday rolled around, Mama was more than ready. She made a fancy new dress with gloves and a nice floppy hat. She did her hair all nice and got me into a nice red corduroy jacket. Mama and I ate and went to the Volts wagon. We drove to the Church, St.Mark the Apostle. Norman, Anne, Ali and I sat next to each other on one of the dark long pews.
"Forgiveness, Today I want to tell you about forgiveness. Not only that but treating our enemy. As Christians we believe in forgiveness. Not only for our self's but for God. We can't truly love Him if we don't love his people. And we can't love his people without forgiveness. Christianity is built upon forgiveness Jesus bled and died for our forgiveness. We also need to love thy enemy. If your enemy hunger, feed him, if he thirsts, give him drink, this Will be second to dumping hot coals upon his head.", Rev.Jones explained. Rev.Jones was always a nice man. A couple hymns were sung afterwards and prayer also. Then the bells rang and Church was over.
Mama raced to volts wagon with me and started it up. Off to Normans house we went. Mama almost fainted at the sight of Normans English Tudor style home, it was bigger than our home time ten! She got over to the door and rung the doorbell.
"Anne! Its great to see you! Come on in and Hello Spencer, Hows my favorite little chap today?" Welcomed Norman.
"Hello Norman", Mama walked in," I a'm wonderful. Hi Ali"
"Hewo Nom-an! Hi Awy!"
"Hedow Spen-ser Hewo AN!" I entered the home and looked for anything that I could play with, and Ali tagged along. Norman put the kettle on the stove and started to talk to Mama.
"Well let us get to know each other!", Norman said whilst he grabbed two fancy tea cups from the cupboard. They were white with blue designs around the top rim. He also grabbed a small silver spoon for the sugar.
"We'll I work for myself, I got one sheep and some shears. I use that to knit and sew. I'm a seamstress. That's how I earn me my livin'. I am a bold, hard-working, kind woman. How's say you?" Mama told.
"I, well I am a lawyer. I'm a petty bloody good one at that! I am for justice and equality....." Norman replied as the kettle interrupted,"Well teas done!"
"Great!" Mama smiled.
"One lump or two dear?" Norman asked as he took the kettle off the stove and poured it into either cup.
"One please." Mama replied Norman mixed in the sugar and gave it to Mama and fixed his own.
Mama started sipping tea. Norman asked, "Where is Spencer's father?" Suddenly Mama spit out her tea.
"Spencer's f-father. Oh umm." Mama started, unfortunately Mama was a terrible liar and so was I, " He not with me, He's a... Goat Header!"
Norman interrupted "No he isn't!"
"No he isn't. I, well fine. Norman, Spencer's father is a dead-beat drunk and a dirty liar and a cheat!", Mama started crying. Norman went to her and gave her a hug. Trying to console her.
"Did he hurt you or Spencer?" Norman questioned as soon as he had seen a mark on her arm. Neil, my father, always hit her real bad, Always yellin'. The marks from his beatings lasted substantial periods of time.
"Yes, Neil gave me beatins all the time. It was hell. I had to lie, He threatened my life if iI told anybody. That bastard! He brought a side out of me that I wasn't me. When I was mad that side came out. God knows the amount of hell I raised durrin' these times." Mama cried.
"That's over now, If he ever does something of that nature again, tell me!."
"Yeah, I will!" Meanwhile Ali and I where playing aimlessly.
"Awy lets pay kitchen." I said.
"owkay." She replied
