Ring-Ring, Ring-Ring. The telephone rang. Mama race to the phone on the wall.
"Hello"
"Hello, Is this Ms. Bryant?"
"Yes this is she. Who are you?''
"I am a police officer. I understand you know Norman Granger."
"Yes! What has happened?"
"Ma'am I regret to inform you that Norman is unconscious in the hospital. He was on the railroad tracks. The signal was faulty. The train hit Norman's car."
"No!"
"Yes ma'am please come to the hospital." The man hung up the phone.
"Ali, Spencer get to the car!" We got into the car and drove to the hospital. It started to rain.
"Where is Norman Granger?!" Asked Mama.
"4-B" replied the nurse. Mama grabbed Ali and I.
"Norman! Norman! Mama yelled.
Ali screamed, "Daddy!". He lay there unconscious. Whe we were ther for a good week before he woke up.
"Norman!" Mama said in a hushed tone, Ali and I were sleeping. He had woke up. He stared to cough.
"Docter, says I have lung damage. Blood got into my lungs." said Norman, He sounded like a smoker.
"Norman, what if you die? Where will Ali go?" Mama asked.
"Ali would go to the state. When I told you that Ali's mother just left, I lied. She died in a storm in Africa. She was there on a red cross mission." Norman cried.
"Oh Norman. I'm so sorry. I had no idea.
"It's okay. I'm not gonna die." Norman said. The doctor walked in.
"You have to leave Ms. Bryant. We need to get some more blood out of Mr.Granger's lungs." Said Doctor Chrisley. Mama, Ali and I left. This time we went home.
"Kids go to bed." Mama demanded. She went to her room. She got on her knees, bowed her head and folded her hands. She started to cry and pray desperately. The next month Norman was home.
