Manik
Nandini Murthy. This one name doesn't stop popping up in my brain. I mean come on she's cute and evrything but the girl has got attitude bigger than her tiny height. From the first day to today all she has done is messed with me and my friends-
Like you haven't?
My smartass subconscious had to mock me right in the middle of my sentence. How thoughtful!
I did try staying away from her but I can't help it when she is a walking talking trouble herself right?
With her thoughts yet again revolving in my head, I reached the place what I call home but I believe a mansion suits it much better since it's got nothing that makes it a home and I must say, I was greeted by a very pleasant sight.
"So Mrs. Nyonika Malhotra is finally done with her so called fooling around" I taunted.
Nyonika was seated on one of the sofas, facing the entrance, reading some file and carrying that smirk I hated and I knew there was something cooking in that damned brain of hers.
"And my son finally finds time to greet his mother" she looked up from the file and smiled sweetly at me.
"Oh you remember having a son?" I gasped in fake surprise whilst she rolled her eyes at me.
"You shouldn't forget I am your mother Manik" she stated nonchalantly and I wasn't even expecting her to be serious about it.
"Right!" I passed her a sarcastic smile followed by an eye roll.
"Anyways I am in no mood to argue with you right now so spare me" I said and began walking towards my room when she stopped me.
What does she want now?
"What is it Nyonika?" I asked, tired of her never ending planning and plotting.
"You need to sign these papers Manik" she said forwarding a file in my direction and I frowned.
"I need to sign? But isn't that dad's job?"
"It is but this time mujhe jo chahiye belongs to you"
"And what is that?"
"The 10% shares that you hold in Space" she smirked and my scowl just deepened.
"And why do you think I'll sign these papers and hand over my shares to you?"
"Because your beloved dad just suffered from a minor heart attack and the doctor needs my permission to carry out the further treatment. Don't worry, he hasn't died yet and there's nothing serious yet but it can be if we delay his treatment and I am sure you wouldn't want that right?"
Disgusting.
"How low can you stoop Nyonika?" My tone defeated.
"This is called taking advantage of the right time" she replied with not even an ounce of guilt in her tone. Not that I expected her to be guilty even. The lady standing in front of me, unfortunately my mother is a stone hearted lady who is only capable of thinking about herself and no one else.
"Papers" I asked, stretching my hand to take the file and went through the documents thoroughly, making sure I wasn't signing for something wrong and finally handed the file back to her after signing it. She smirked victoriously and began walking away when I realised something and snatched away the file from her.
"What the hell Manik!"
Expected reaction.
"Make a call to dad's doctor first and ask him to begin with his treatment. Only then will I give you this file" I demanded.
"Fine" she rolled her eyes and called the doctor asking him to begin with dad's treatment, the call on speaker for my assurance.
"Give me my file now"
"Here aur ha I am going to Pune to check on dad and trust me if I find something wrong there then I won't leave you and you know me enough to take me seriously" I said while handing her the file to which she nodded.
I was so enjoying her vexation.
Letting out a tired sigh, I reached my room and crashed myself on the bed, tired of all the drama my so called mother keeps creating for me.
She isn't a mother, she is a literal devil in disguise of a mother and unfortunately I am the one privileged to be her son.
How fortunate am I!
Pushing back my thoughts I decided to have a nice hot shower and sleep after packing my stuff for Pune. I wasn't sure of how long my stay was going to be so I randomly packed 2-3 pair of clothes and some other necessities then had a good relaxing shower and went off to sleep.
The next day, I was up by 5 am and reached Pune there hours later, directly reaching the hospital. I first had a talk with dad's doctor and was relieved to find he was doing good and there wasn't much to worry about and then straightaway went to meet Dad.
"Good morning dad" I greeted entering inside to see him engrossed in reading a newspaper.
Good. At least he isn't working early in the morning.
"Manik? What are you doing here?" Was his first question. No smiles, no greetings. Well, I should have expected it out of him.
"Heard you had a heart attack so came to see you" I said, settling next to him on a stool.
"Oh"
Just an oh?
"What went wrong Dad? You have always been careful about your health then how did you have a heart attack?" I asked softly.
"Nothing. Just business stress...no big deal"
Now I was infuriated about how casually he took this matter.
"It is a big deal Dad" I hissed and continued.
"You had a freaking heart attack, its not like you had some small cut. Stop taking it so casually for God sake"
He didn't say anything but he did look surprised.
Great! He is surprised seeing his son's concern towards him.
"Now stop staring at me like that. I had a talk with your doctor and he said you can get discharged today only if you take good care of yourself. I have appointed a nurse for you who'll take care of your medicines and help you carry out your day-to-day work for a while until you get fine and I don't want you to argue on that. Its decided" I declared in a tone of finality to which he just nodded his head.
"Now keep this paper aside, it's time for your medicines" I said, helping him sit and keeping the Newspaper aside.
He gulped the medicines like an obedient kid and lied down again to sleep, asking me to leave him alone for sometime.
His nonchalance towards me was sure hurtful but that's how we were and any efforts put by me couldn't change the fact.
I sighed and silently left his room and made myself comfortable on the bench outside, deciding to take a short nap for I needed an escape from the world I was living in.
Happy reading.
