Manik

It had been more than five minutes but Nandini was still pacing around the room and it had started to annoy me now.

"Nandini will you stop marching left to right like a pendulum and just sit down. Tum thak nahi jaati kya? I am toh already feeling giddy just looking at you so for God sake sit down"

"Sit down? Mr. Malhotra if you realise then we are locked in a freaking storeroom which is unfortunately located in the most isolated area of the college and hence we need to think of something to get out of here na. Kisi ko sapna toh nahi aayega na ki we are here" she stared at me in disbelief but I could make out the restlessness in her tone.

Something was up with her.

"We have got friends Nandini. Tumhara pata nahi but my friends might have figured out that I am missing aur unhone mujhe dhundna bhi start kar diya hoga so just relax, they'll eventually find us and we'll be out soon. Stop stressing unreasonably" I said expecting her to calm down but instead her mouth opened in an 'o' and soon enough I saw her marching towards the door and banging it yet again making me sigh in disbelief.

This girl!

"Why the hell are you banging the door again? You are only increasing my headache by doing this. Didn't I tell you no one's gonna listen and that our friends will find us?" I questioned but she just ignored me and continued banging the door, this time with more force.

"Hello? Koi hai? Watchman...peon uncle? Hum yaha band ho gaye hai. Koi hai? Please help us!" She yelled on top of her voice and it was getting on my nerves. Not able to tolerate anymore, I zoomed towards her and lifted her in my arms as she began struggling in my hold.

"Manik! What are you doing? Put me down" she yelped in surprise, throwing her hands at me like a child and swinging her legs in the air to set herself free but I was too strong for her futile attempts.

"Stop yelling Nandini" I scowled as I made her sit on the sofa and immediately settled next to her, tightly holding her hands to prevent her from getting up again.

"Why should I stop yelling? Main chillau, naachu ya gau...its my wish and you have no fucking right to tell me what should I do. Since you said that your so called 'friends' might have started searching for you so I thought that maybe they come here listening to my shouts but tum toh yeh sab samajhne se rahe right!" She completed, visibly vexed.

"Oh really? But Ms. Smart Murthy, let me remind you that the friends that you're talking about don't like you at all and I think you just saw a little demo of it some time ago so why exactly did you think they'll come to rescue you listening to you shouting?" I mocked and a look of realisation crossed her face but that changed real quick as she began glaring at me.

"If you already knew all of this then you should have initiated to scream for help but nai, you toh want to sit here and wait na as if your friends are some magicians who'll know you're here without you doing anything hai na" she taunted me, her vexation quite evident in her tone.

"And you really think I'll waste my energy in shouting like a mad man? No way am I doing that"

"But why?"

"Because....mood nahi hai" I shrugged nonchalantly and her glare just intensified.

The next five minutes passed by in tensed silence as none of us spoke anything but kept passing occasional glares to each other as we kept annoying each other. I began tapping my foot for I didn't know what else to do while Nandini kept stomping my foot in order to stop me which in turn made me tap my foot even more loudly.

Kiddish I know, but I still found it amusing because it annoyed Nandini.

I was too engrossed in tapping my foot in a certain rhythm when Nandini suddenly jumped from beside me, all excited.

Seemed like she found a way out of this place.

"Manik!"

"What?" I replied, trying to look as disinterested as I could.

"Phone! Hum phone use karke kisiko call kar sakte hai na. We are so dumb, how could I not think of this before!?" She beamed like a little kid. I was awed for a moment but it was just for a moment as disbelief overtook me.

"Oh Einstein, you are the only one dumb here"

"Huh?"

"What? Tumhe kya lagta hai ki yeh phone use karne ka intelligent idea mujhe nahi aaya hoga? Ofcourse I thought of it but iss area me network ke bohot zyaada issues hai and hence phones don't work here" I stated blankly as I saw her face getting pale as she registered my words.

"Let me try at least" she said, grabbing her phone only to be met with disappointment as she shoved it back inside her bag.

"Number one music college but they can't provide good network services. How useless!" She muttered under her breath yet I heard it but made no comments.

"Ab hum kya kare?" she began again after a few moments of silence and now I was really pissed.

"What is your problem Nandini?" I yelled this time.

"My problem is that I am stuck here and that too with you and it's only me who seems to be bothered about getting out of here while you're all calm- ek second!" She paused like she realised something and then looked at me with accusing eyes.

"Kahi yeh tumhara ya fab 5 ka plan toh nahi hai na to lock me in this storeroom? Main bhi kitni stupid hu...of course yeh tum logo ka plan hi hoga" she accused and then scoffed humorlessly.

"Stupid toh tum ho to assume ki yeh sab maine plan kiya hai. Agar main yeh sab plan karta toh why would I lock myself with you ha? Let me guess...maybe bceause I love getting bit by mosquitoes right? Or maybe because I love listening to all that bullshit you speak...hai na!"

"Stop throwing your sarcasm at me. Its you only who has forced me to think like that because aaj ke baad na whatever little trust I had in you is broken and since I know tum aur tumhare friends kaise hai, that only gives me more reasons to assume this" She snapped back with a blank face.

"I told you I wasn't involved, it was all Alia so stop snapping at me" I said through gritted teeth, emphasising on each word.

"You weren't this time but I don't know about next time na because I know you can do anything for fab 5"

"Nandini-" I began to speak when suddenly the lights went off.

Great.
