An Archangel's Daughter

Chapter 12

Aurora's POV

After last night I felt a little better. Now I know who my dad was, but I also lost Castiel, who had meant a lot to me. I didn't want to leave my room. I felt that if I went out there, to Sam and Dean, that I would just start crying again. And Dean would get mad. I hear a knock at my door and I go to open it.

Sam is on the other side with a box. "Uh, you got mail." He says. "Mail?" I repeat. He nods. "Yeah this package was sitting on our doorstep." He points to the words on the box. "There's no return address, just your name."

I take the box and feel surprised by the slight heaviness of it. Sam also gives me a small knife. "You are trusting me with this?" I ask in surprise. The last time they left me with a weapon I tried to hurt myself with it. "Yes. It's just a small letter opener. Just sharp enough to open the box but not sharp enough to break skin. " he explains.

"I have a feeling that this is something for you only so I'm going to give you some privacy. After you open it, if you want to show me you can. But only if you want to." I nod understanding. "Thank you." I tell him, and Sam leaves, closing the door behind him.

I put the box on my bed and put the letter opener on the seams to open them. Inside the box is a letter, a bag of gummy worms, a strange looking little object, and an electronic device with a cord. I open the letter first.

Hello Aurora, it's your dad. Your mom loves you very much. I know it's kind of depressing, but she knew that she would die bringing you to this world. So, she recorded a video for you and put it on a flash drive. In this box you'll find the flash drive, your very own laptop, and a snack. (Next to the word snack, some colorful sketches of gummy worms crawled around.) Happy Birthday I guess. Sorry it's kinda late.

I notice that there are more words on the back so I flip the paper around.

Okay, so I figured as I was putting this together that you probably don't know what a flash drive is or work a computer so I'll give you the step by step.

1) Take out the laptop and open it so that the screen is on the top and the letter keys are on the bottom.

2) Press the button that looks like this (a sketch of an almost done circle with a line going through it)

3) When the screen turns on take the flash drive and plug it into the hole on the side with this symbol above it. (A symbol starting with a dot and a line and spreading out with three more kind of squiggly lines ending with a dot, a triangle, and a square.)

4) A file will pop up. You click on that then press play. (A sketch of a sideways triangle)

5) Enjoy!

PS : If the laptop battery dies, plug it into an outlet with the cord, that will juice it back up again.

I follow the instructions Dad gave me and a video starts on the laptop. An image of my mother pops up. She was beautiful. "Hi, Aurora. It's, uh...I'm your mom." I listen intrigued, I've never heard Mother's voice from an outside source. "I guess I should tell you, I always wanted to be a mom. I played with dolls. I was that kind of girl. And daydream about my baby. Aurora, don't let anybody tell you who you're supposed to be, because who you're supposed to be isn't fate. It isn't me, it isn't your dad." She pauses, she looks like she's about to cry. "You are who you choose to be. And I know you're gonna be okay. You are gonna be amazing." She smiles and sniffles. "You have an angel watching over you." She looks up and sniffles again then looks back at the camera. "I love you Aurora. Never forget that. Ever." The video stops and I close the laptop.
