18. "My girls"

"Fine" Bella says, her eyes glossing over with tears. Everyone looked at her in shock. Her grandmother looked at her with disgust. Bella turned to the people she preferred in the room and smiled. "Thank you for a lovely dinner mum and dad, Audrey i'll see you at school" and with that, Bella left. She wanted to be back in her room, crying to piper.  She wanted her best friend to make everything okay. Her family clearly didn't care for her. She left the castle doors, thanking the maids as she went. Despite being upset and angry, she kept her manners. Something which made it clear that she was an auradon girl born and raised. She sat down on the stairs and buried her head in her hands. She cried. Many of the staff had watched Bella grow up. They knew to leave her. There were only three people in the world who could make her feel better. Piper, Audrey and her dad. 

"Im going to speak to her" Phillip stood up. Aurora nodded and gave him a small smile.  She grabbed his arm before he could leave. "Just... make her smile okay?" Aurora said. Phillip nodded at his wife. There was one thing she hated in the world. That was her daughters crying. He walked out and headed towards the doors. 

"She's on the steps sir" one guard said. He nodded a thank you and walked out. His youngest daughter was sat, crying. She looked broken.  He cautiously approached her and sat next to her. He put an arm around her and pulled her close to him. "Why can't she just understand?" she sobs. Once she has cried she looks up at him. "She just cares about you" he sighs. Bella scoffs. "If she cared about me, shed meet him properly. She wouldn't refuse to see me, her own granddaughter because she doesn't like my boyfriend" Bella rants. He stays quiet for a second. "So what? I'll meet him, your mother will meet him, by the sound of it Audrey likes him" He tries to cheer her up. Bella scoffs again. "Audrey doesn't like him, shed just doing that because she wants me to be happy" Bella says. "She's trying, for you" her dad smiles. Bella shrugs. "Its parents day next week, can we meet him then?" Phillip smiles, changing the subject. "If you so wish, but she is not coming" Bella glares at the house. "No, she isn't coming" He smiles softly. He was always able to calm Bella down. "Im sorry for ruining the evening, but can I go back to school?" She asks quietly. "Come on, i'll drive you" he stands up and offers her his hand. Bella smiles a smile to say thank you. "You want to get back to him?" he asks as they get into his car. Bella shakes her head which surprises her father. "I want to get back to piper" She shrugs. "Of course" he mumbles. The pair had been inseparable since they met. They did everything together. There was a period of Time where you didn't see piper or Bella without the other. 

Meanwhile, the dining room is in silence. Audrey shakes her head and glares at her grandmother. "Audrey!" her mother warns.  Audrey rolls her eyes. "what! you're just perfectly happy to go back to normal after she just destroyed your daughter? Carlos means a lot to her and I may not like him but I know that he is good for Bella" Audrey says, her voice getting louder as she goes on. "You cant allow her to say things about him that way! Im sure pipers dad wouldn't say things like that about jay!" Audrey continues. Her mother shakes her head. "Thats different" aurora shakes her head. "How?" Audrey rolls her eyes. "Piper isn't a princess. She has no meaning to the world whatsoever" her grandmother buts in. "don't say that about her. Piper deserves the world and you know it" Audrey spits before turning her attention back to her mother. "This is your best friends daughter she's saying that about! The girl you promised to protect and care for! How can you let her say that" Audrey says, her eyes filled with emotion. There was one thing she wouldn't stand for. And that was people dissing her friends. Piper had been there for both of the sisters since the age of 3. She deserved way more than a crown.  "That is no way to speak about me" Her granny says. Audrey turns to her. "You think this is okay? You are ruining your own grandchildren! You led me to do the awful things I did. I had your voice running around my head! You brought me down so much I felt like I had to do it!  And now look what you're doing to Anna!" she exclaims. Before her grandmother could reply Audrey turned away. "Thank you for dinner mother, I shall see you on parents day" and with that Audrey ran out. Hoping to catch her sister before she left.

As they begin to drive away. Audreys voice stops them. Bella rolls down her window as Audrey comes towards them. "Maybe I can hitch a ride?" she smiles. Her dad nods as Bella laughs. She was thinking of back when Uma wanted to leave.  Bella remembered thinking that was the end. it wasn't. Maybe this meant it wasn't the end for their family. Maybe they'd make up. Maybe, hopefully it would turn out okay. After all, princesses are supposed to get their happily ever after. 

The three sang along to all their favourite songs. By the end of it, both girls were cheered up. They all got out of the car. "Thanks dad" Bella hugged him. " Tell Carlos I cant wait to meet him" he winked as Bella walked away. She shook her head, smiling and walked in. Audrey gave him and hug and smile. "watch out for her okay?" he smiled at his eldest daughter.  "I always do" Audrey grinned before walking away. The dad watched his daughters in awe. They really are growing up. He was proud. "My girls" he shakes his head fondly and walks back to his car. He remembered feeling this when Bella started at auradon prep. He was nervous. They have each other. They'll be just fine.
