CHAPTER TWENTY
“Earth to Holly!” Felicity calls and waves her hand in front of my face, “Hello? Holly? Are the lights on, anyone home?”
“Sorry, you were saying?” I snap out of my trance.
“Wow, what’s wrong with you today?”
“Lot on my mind,” I shake my head and pick up a bottle of water from the drinks cabinet in the corner shop.
“Can you believe that the wedding is in two weeks today?” She questions with disbelief. “And I got an invite,” She rolls her eyes, scanning them across the newspapers again.
“I know,” I say quietly and hand the money over to the cashier for my water.
“Seriously, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing!” I lie, pushing the shop door open and walking out.
“Holly!” Felicity raises her voice as I get quite a distance away from her up the street. “Stop lying.”
I stop walking but keep my back facing her. “Me and Harry…” I sigh, “We had sex. There, you happy?”
“You did what now?” Her voice squeaks.
“We fucked one another last night, OK? You wanted to know, I told you.” I spin around to face her horror struck face.
“Please tell me this is a joke.”
I shake my head.
“But what about Aaron?” She yells at me, taking a step closer and shaking my shoulders violently, earning us a few odd looks from passers-by.
“His something I thought he wouldn’t be. So can we just leave it at that?” I beg, detangling myself from her grip and carrying on through the silent street.
“Harry fucking Styles took your virginity, Holly! He’s engaged!”
“Why are you so worked up about it?” I mumble.
“Holly, he’s engaged. You’re still with Aaron, you both just cheated,” She reminds me.
“I ended it with Aaron this morning, he doesn’t matter anymore.”
“You only last two to three weeks,” She whispers and sighs.
“I have more important things to worry about, like going to university and selling my flat to move back up north.”
“You’re moving?” Her voice cracks.
We stop walking and I turn to face her, nodding my head. “I’m moving to Manchester to go to university.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? You didn’t tell me about quitting your job either until I asked where you were. Do you want me to know anything? Am I just blabber mouth Felicity to you?” She screams at me in the middle of the street. “I’m done. Have fun with Harry fucking Styles, the boy who ruins lives.”
I watch as she slowly walks in the opposite direction to what we were originally going to go in, not taking a glance over her shoulder to look at me one last time.
