4. Flashback 2

Last year was our first formal.

The winter formal.

Everyone in our grade looks forward to it. I for one was hoping to get asked by someone, like literally that was my only concern. (Winter formals the guys ask the girls to the dance. Summer balls (that sounds so wrong) the girls ask the guys.)

Haya gets asked by her lab partner . A week was left for the formal.

And I hadn't been asked yet.

Theo also didn't have a date. I thought he was maybe going to ask me.

But, it wasn't him, it was Mason a guy in our grade asking me, a total geek . I mean no one risks this kinda stuff . When you could ask Qadri the beautiful goddess and his ex.

He asked me!!

So, wanna know how he asked me? He put one of those instagram close friends story. And he removed everyone from his friends list and tagged me. He put a question and answer sticker which said "Perline Silas will u go to the Sormal with me" (summer formal won't fit).

I didn't believe it was him and video called him. Turns out it was him, which is more embarrassing than someone pranking me.

And I said YES. I mean I knew him since kindergarten and was not a mean guy for someone who looks like that.

After I said yes to Mason, Theo doesn't talk to me the whole week. I don't know what I did to piss him. And Haya wouldn't ask him.

Anyways the day of the formal.

My dress was this 'A-line halter neck navy blue short dress' that I got on etsy.
My hair was short and curly (back then) so I just put some little berets & let my hair do it's thing.

And Haya wore this peach gown that sings glamorous,

Theo made me realise that my crush on him had just become alive, when I saw him walking towards Haya's house in a navy blue suit. And he was alone, he had no date to the formal.

The formal was in our auditorium. It was huge.

Mason was a gentleman, he bought a corsage and we danced to the best songs. He and I grew a lot close to each other in the past few days.

But I kept peeking at Theo.
Just then I saw him walk towards the punch table and I asked Mason if he wanted drinks and I ran slowly (if it makes sense) to the table.
I finally got a hold of him.
"Theo, stop acting like a bitch, not even a dick, cuz it's been a week since you've said anything to me and you know I hate it when people behave like kids and not talk to each other. And I need to know what I did to make you so mad." I ranted.

But he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at something else behind me and it wasn't the ignoring kind of looking into space instead he was actually seeing something.

Then I turn behind and I see Mason shooing off Qadri's hand. At that moment their eyes glittered and he's only pushing her away because of me. I know what I have to do and they both kiss.

I run outside to our field and sit on the bleachers and cry. I hear footsteps and see Theo come sit next to me.
"Go away, T." I say.

He doesn't say anything. I cry even more now. And I shiver cuz it's a cold night and my dress isn't exactly warm. He puts his suit blazer on my shoulders.
Through stifled tears I say " What are you doing?"
"Putting this on you cuz you're cold"
"So I had to cry , so you would talk to me"
"Nooo, Of course not." He holds my hand when he says that. "I just don't get what you see in him.."
"Oh god, that was what this was about. Mason!!"
"Yeah...I wanted to ask you to the formal, Perri!"
"Why didn't you then, I would've said yes."
He removes a box from his pocket and gives it to me. It was a necklace and it had a locket with a moon on it, behind it said FORMAL?.
I gasp.
"This took a lot of days to ship. It came the day after Mason asked you. I was pissed at him cuz Coach Genghis made him the captain of the team. And he deserved it but I worked hard too."
"Oh, Theo you are such a child. You could have just talked to me. Why all this nonsense."
"I was, I wanted to, but I-
Haya cuts off Theo when she says, " what're you doing out here?"
"Perri are you crying!"
"No, I was but not anymore."
Theo says, "Dipshit-Mason kissed Qadri!"
"Whattt!!!!!" I wave my hand at her showing her the ring and she realised I spelled them into kissing.

That's when Mason rushes to us, "Perri .... I was looking for you. I'm sorry, I.. just I didn't mean for it to happen."
"Mason, it's alright. What you and Qadri have don't lose it over me and I don't wanna be your rebound 'kay."
"Yeah, dude she's not a toy for you to play with."
"Theo, stay out of it and Perri you are not my rebound. I was just... I dunno."
Mason walks away.

I feel my tears rushing back when Haya says "Oh well, atleast you bitches are speaking to each other."

We all laugh and things are back to normal. Theo and I never spoke about that night ever again or how awkward and weird it was.
