IT'S HARD NOT TO BE unsettled but the oddity that was Taehyung who roamed her house, curious of anything within sight of him. He was currently trying to figure out the TV, pressing every button he could to see what he did.
It hasn't even been a whole day and these past few hours have been the most interesting (if you can even call it that)hours of Aspen's life. For someone so smart and who knows the weirdest and random things, Taehyung doesn't seem to know or understand seemingly basic things.
Taehyung said that there are curtains things he doesn't need to do. Like breathing, eating, sleep, but he does need water. Aspen was starting to think he just photosynthesizes like a plant.
"If you don't need to eat, then why were you trying to raid my fridge?" She asked. Taehyung didn't look at her. He was far too focused on trying to control the TV. He seemed to be both amazed and confused by the fact that one tiny button could display other pre-recorded videos of other human beings. And the fact that humans watch other humans pretending to be other, fictional, humans for entertainment.
Taehyung glanced at her briefly. "I was simply curious. My planet found yours years ago, rather recently as well, maybe 100 years by human time. We were excited to find another planet that contained intelligible life. I did not intend to come here. We already have researchers stationed in different parts of the world. I never left my planet before now so I am curious about your human customs and traditions."
There are aliens on Earth. All over Earth apparently and no one had any idea. This is revolutionary. This could change the way people see the world, existence. Aspen knew she was having some sort of crisis right now. Were there even more planets with life on them? Would humans ever be able to come to Taehyung's planet?
Yeontan kept his eyes on Taehyung from his spot on his bed. Taehyung didn't seem affected by the dog and instead found him adorable, but whenever he tried to pet Yeontan, the small dog snapped at him.
Aspen went upstairs for just a moment to grab something from her room, but the second she entered her room. Yeontan started barking again, making Aspen sigh with impatience. She went back downstairs to see Yeontan on Taehyung's lap, trying to jump up to bite his face as he barked at the man.
Taehyung didn't look affected in the slightest. In fact, he seemed to be enjoying it. He was amused by the small dog and didn't feel threatened even in the slightest.
Aspen walked over to them and grabbed Yeontan, picking him up and hugging him to her chest. "Stop it." She told him sternly, before putting him back down on the floor and once again, sending him off to his bed under the table.
"Where do you come from, Taehyung?" He was still focused on the TV, now he was messing with the numbered buttons, but all the came up with static as she didn't have cable. Who uses cable anymore?
"It's very far from Earth. It's not even considered a planet here, you call it a star. It doesn't have a name on Earth. My people call it Ashau. It roughly translates to world in English." He explains. "Human Aspen, how does this thing function. I understand that this button turns it on." He breezed over the topic of his planet, as if he didn't want to linger on it for very long. Aspen didn't push him on it.
She took the remote from his hand and turned on a show for him to watch while Taehyung looked on with a whimsical sparkle in his dark eyes. Aspen turned on what she had been watching before, her comfort show, The Amazing World of Gumball.
Taehyung was perplexed by human entertainment. Not only could they watch other humans pretending to be other fictional humans, they liked to watch moving drawings of anthropomorphic animals acting as humans. He quickly became familiar with the two main characters, Gumball, a blue cat, and his best friend and adopted brother, Darwin, a walking goldfish.
His attention was captured completely, trying to wrap his mind around what was being displayed before him. With his attention momentarily occupied, Aspen figured that she might as well get dinner ready. She had two mouths to feed now.
Every night was a new mystery as to what dinner would be. She never thought about it ahead of time so she was rather put on the spot to find something to eat, especially today, this curious day.
Her cabinets were in disarray from Taehyung's voyage through the earlier, but stood, she found a few boxes of spaghetti pasta and pasta sauce. With some ground beef in the fridge, Aspen figured that she'd just make some spaghetti and call it a night.
Aspen sat a pot of water on the burner and brought it to a boil while grabbing her largest pan to cook the ground beef. Spaghetti was simple. She didn't even have to think about making it like her mind went into autopilot.
There wasn't much that Aspen had to do except stir the pasta every few seconds and make sure the meat didn't burn so she just sat beside the kitchen, watching the show from where she was standing. Taehyung was still fully immersed in the show, his head was resting on his hand and his black, curly hair flopped over to the side.
Aspen went back to the kitchen to stir the pasta again. She went back and forth like this for a few minutes, pouring out the pasta sauce in a separate pot to heat it up. Soon, the spaghetti and beef were fully cooked. After straining the noodles, she tossed it all into one pot. Easy, simple, minimal complications. You can't go wrong with spaghetti.
"Taehyung, food's ready!" Aspen called from the kitchen, grabbing two bowls out of the cabinet before scooping up some spaghetti and putting it into the bowls.
Taehyung wandered his way back into the kitchen, smiling delightfully at actually cooked food. It smelled and looked better than it did separated into individual ingredients. He watched as Aspen went into the fridge and grabbed the parmesan cheese from off the door rack.
Taehyung examined the way Aspen layered on the cheese over her pasta and handed it over to him. Taehyung replicated what she did, adding an excessive amount of cheese onto his food. Just as she twirled her fork in the noodles, he did just the same.
Taehyung was determined to blend in while he was here on Earth and he figured that the best way to act human is to replicate what a human does.
