The sun was just starting to raise as Kyo stood at the seashore looking at the sea, it always calms her down and she needed it today. Today was the festival where she would find the man she would spend the rest of her life with and say she was nervous would be an understatement. She did feel how can one simple festival decide who one should spend the rest of her life with but knew it to be good, She grew up listening to how it felt right and seeing that it did lead to happiness for people. So why not you, right?
Kyo sighed taking in a deep breathe, the fragrance of the sea, the warmth of the rising sun. She then took out her katana and began her daily practice. She tried her best to train herself and surpass her limits but as the sun rose, she noticed that people were starting to come that way, quickly ran back home and hid her katana safely before continuing through the day, helping out in the house and shop. It was not common for a girl to know how to wield a weapon, well no girl of common folks do anyway. Not that she was common in any way, worked at a local diner and worked at the blacksmith. This was a pretty simple place, they were small and peace-loving people surrounded by the sea. But they never go far from the island as the ocean become rougher and rougher as you go further into it but everyone loves living here. They were gifted by the Gods in their special ways.
There is a clan which is responsible for the protection and well-being of the island and its people. There is no fancy royalty that rules them, there are some Nobel clan but that's about it. The Clan is entrusted with the island and it has been taking care of the clan as long as they can remember. Then the people here can choose whatever they wish to join to work, there is no forced labour required here. Gods and Goddesses seem to have blessed them in more ways than one. The island and its people appear to be a miracle in themselves but they were also gifted as of they would be able to find their soul mates in a particular time. They were blessed with the red thread of fate binding the two together.
She worked all day, you mostly worked in the kitchen but would take over the front if needed. It was a rushed day as the festival that is the be celebrated is a very important one. Everyone was buying gifts or having a nervous breakdown. It was your first time of being able to participate in the festival. She has heard it from others but never has experienced it herself and she had mixed feeling about it.
She was given an early off as it was her first time with the festival, she was rushed home where she was helped with getting ready. Her boss is more excited than she is, told you to make sure you looked perfect for tonight. She was in traditional wear of the people and she gotta admit she did a pretty got job getting herself ready.
The night was beautiful, with lights and music everywhere, everyone was enjoying excited for the moment when the magic will happen. The moment when the moon would be hidden and there would be darkness, the red threads of destiny/fate would guide them straight to their soulmate. They would have only a few minutes before the moon appears again, if they don't find their soulmates then they would have to wait for the next festival to come before they could try again. This had been this land's most cherished festival so people would run around trying to find their soulmates and it's almost like a sport now.
Kyo looked around the festivals all the once who would be finding their soulmates were ready, prepared to run off searching as soon as the time comes. Looking around the festival, she realized how young everyone finds their soulmate but still better than looking and searching for them for the rest of their life.
Soon the festival quiet down, Kyo realized that it's time, she could feel her heart racing fast, trying to take a deep breath to calm herself. She took a deep breath and got ready, even though she were very nervous she wanted to find who the person is. Soon the moonlight starts to disappear and everything turns dark, she could feel people running around towards the other end of their red thread that was connected to their small fingers.
She start to walk fast following her thread, she could feel walking away from the main festival, towards a place very familiar to her. The beach. Kyo continued to follow the thread carefully. She sensed someone, as the end side of your thread could be seen, you couldn't see the person but just the end of the thread. Kyo slowed down, walking slowly towards him, she could feel him walking towards her as well. They stood in front of each other, neither can see the other but they could feel the closeness that was there and they could see the thread that connected them. Her hand was slowly taken hold off by a much rougher hand that worked a lot near the ocean as she could smell the sea and smoke on him. Playing with the hands and fingers of each other, saying nothing. Slowly intertwining their fingers, the moonlight shone on them as it came back. Kyo raised her eyes and looked up to see a pair of small hazel eyes staring back at her lazily.
He was taller than her, brown hair brushed backwards and he wore the dress usually worn by the fishermen here. You smiled at him, not knowing what else to do.
"Yami Sukehiro" You blushed as he had still not let go of your hand. Your eyes widened at his last name. The leader clan.
"Kyo"
"Kyo ?"
"Just Kyo, I don't have the last name"
"Oh" He didn't push the matter, she appreciated that everyone always pushed her to tell why and whatnot, even if she made it clear she was not comfortable taking of it. "You can now have my last name if you like, after all, we are soul mates and will eventually marry one day"
He started walking towards the festival still not leaving his hand, she blushed as she could not understand how could he say something so big, so casually. She stuttered gibberish, unable to form any words.
"According to the tradition, you are now my companion, but since we are very young, we can get to know each other for a while before moving ahead with our relationship." She was gonna faint if this boy kept talking about such things so carelessly. "O-Okay" She managed to speak but it came out like a squeak as she continued to walk beside him. "So you like to use katana?"
She chocked on her breath as she looked at him wide-eyed, "Why- how- uh" She stuttered unable to form a sentence. "I've seen you practice a few times when I go to the sea to catch fishes"
"You're a fisherman?" She asked curiously.
"You have a problem with it?"
"NO! I don't mean it like that. It's just I always wanted to learn fishing but never had a chance to"
"I could teach you if you want," He said casually like it was nothing.
She mumbled, "I would like that very much".
