Chapter - 5

As the day ended and Kyo and Yami returned to their home, they could see that there was some kind of a festival going on near the beach where the fishermen lived. They shared a look before moving towards that direction, Kyo had always loved going to festivals maybe cause, unlike Yami she was a very sociable person. They got to the beach and noticed that there were only people from that tribe present, thankfully, Yami was like a family member to them and Kyo as well, since She was his soulmate after all.

"Hey, old man! What's going on!" Yami shouted as they walked closer to them.

"Yami!! It's an important night for us today~" The old man replied clearly drunk.

"Huh? What's so special?" Yami was curious but so was Kyo.

"Tonight, we celebrate and show our love for our soulmate who wait by the shore for us to return and tomorrow we sail to the sea, catching their favourite fishes and cook it for them ourselves. Hahah~ It is always so fun!" The man drank some more sake from his cup.

"That's enough! Come one, you'll regret it tomorrow~" His wife came up to him trying to coax him into calling it a night.

"But I haven't told them the best part! You have to search for a peal for your beloved! And every year you keep adding it to the last one! " The man exclaim stumbling as his wife tried to keep him steady. His wife whispered something in his eyes that made him stop and straighten up.

"UM! Children, it's getting late, I think it's best if I call it a night! Goodnight both of you!! Come on, Dear." He wished them farewell and rushes away pulling his wife along with him who was laughing her butt off.

Kyo laughed at that sight, it was honestly adorable to see those two. It's been years since she first met them and they still look at each other like they have just found each other. Kyo turned to look at Yami still laughing and instantly stops and raises her brow at him. "No! No-no-no, nope" She backs away from him pointing her finger at him. "You, Mister, are not doing that. You don't need to! Knowing that you are willing to do that for me is enough" She wraps her arms around him and kisses him softly under the starry night sky.

"Wouldn't hurt to actually show it to you from time to time.." He mumbled against her lips making her smile. "I guess, I'll have to wait for you here then." She smiles at him looking so beautiful under the moonlight. He just picked her up so he wouldn't have to bend so long as she snuggled into his neck smiling and blushing.

"Don't worry. I won't keep you waiting for so long." Yami said as he started to walk home with her in his arms. He couldn't be any happier at that moment despite what his family might think about him, Kyo always sees the best in him and never fails to make him feel better about the situation. Tomorrow he'll make sure to find the prettiest pearl for his precious soulmate and he'll have to get someone's help with the fish but he'll do everything by himself.

After a long night, Yami managed to still wake up early to get ready to sail out, he carefully got out of bed not disturbing Kyo who was still sleeping peacefully. He went out and got ready for the day, he went for a bath and got ready to leave only to find Kyo waiting for him with bento in her hands. "Going somewhere without telling me?" She pouted but smiled as she handed him his bento, "Just in case, It becomes a long trip" she explains to him. Yami kisses her head as he took the bento and said, "I'll be back before you know it."

"I know! I'll be waiting for you." She grins at him. She looked adorable and funny at her same time, her hair in a messed up bun on top of her head, she was just wearing his clothes and was looking sleepy as she hugged him yawning. "Go back to sleep, stupid."

"Nope," She said. "I'm gonna be waiting for you. So just give me 5 minutes, I'll just freshen up and come. And don't you dare try and leave without me. I'll kick your butt" She shots him a glare as she ran up the stairs. True to her words she was back in 5 minutes all fresh and ready, Yami grabbed her hand and started to walk towards Yani's boat. Yami grabbed his equipment on the way holding her hands all the while.

Yami set up his sail and everything, while Kyo looked around trying to feel the weather to see if there could be any dangers. Yami noticed her worry and chuckled it was comical to see her that way, she was always the carefree one. Kyo couldn't help it there was this feeling deep in her heart that she should stop him from going but at the same time it was like she knew that she has to let him go, he'll come back to her like always.

Yami picked her up and twirled her around making her giggle forgetting all her worries, just enjoying that moment with Yami. Yami kissed her slowly wanting to take her mind off her worries and see him off with her pretty smile and blushy face after a kiss. He puts her down to see that pretty face blushing as she looks into his eyes. "I love you, Yami" She smiles.

"I love you too, Stupid!" He messes her hair up.

"hEY!" She pouts.

Yami gets on his boat before turning towards her, "Will you be waiting for me?"

"Yup!" She grins. "Stay safe, Yami."

"I'll be back by  sunset!"

"I'll be waiting!"

Yami simply waves at her and his boat drifts along with the wind before turning to take control of it. Kyo continues to stare at him figure getting smaller and smaller as he went further away. Deep down, she knew something was off.

_Few weeks later_

Kyo stood in front of the sea staring at it waiting for the moment she'll see Yami's boat sailing towards her as the sun started to set, she kept repeating his promise, "He'll be back by sunset, he said he'll be back by sunset."

"I'm sorry, Kyo but he's not coming back" They tried to console her but she pushed them away screaming. She has been waiting for weeks now, she looked like a mess, there were dark circles around her eyes and her eyes, which use to always look lit up now looked dull. She was having a hard time believing that Yami has not returned from his trip and he'll never return, accidents happen and that day there was a horrible storm at that side of the ocean. Everyone tried to tell Kyo that but she refuses to believe.

"No! You all are lying!! He's not dead. I KNOW THAT!! I kno-" She choked back her tears refusing to believe those lies they were trying to tell her. She pushes everyone away and walks back towards their home, shaking and trying to breathe. She slams the door behind her and slides down to the floor unable to process anything, everything was going on so perfectly.

Yami can't be dead, he always comes back. He must have lost the way, yes. that must be it, he must have lost his way but he'll come back to her soon. She can't be moping around he'll come back soon. She wipes her tears away and walks towards the washroom, cleaning herself up and got freshen up. She walked around the house trying to clean everything again, she refuses to believe that Yami will ever leave her, not even in death and certainly not when he gave her his word, he has to keep it.

She goes to the diner ready for the day, no one speaks about Yami to her. They know better than to make her angry, she is known for her wrath and also for being weird like Yami. They say that she is a witch that's why she was fated to be with Yami who the villagers believe was the devil himself. They have seen him use dark magic and they know it's not normal.

But the fear, as well as respect, kept them from saying anything because she'll kill them if she knew the truth and that they were happy with the news of Yami's death. They can always get Kyo married to someone who is actually capable of leading the village since she is the only Sukehiro young enough. She will stay Lady Sukehiro and they will not have to deal with the witch anymore.

But she can never know the truth...
