Roland POV

I didn't sleep well, if at all, last night.

My morning was brought closer to me today as my door bell started to ring, and a row of knocks sounded through my apartment.

I ran to the door and opened it quickly.
When my door swung open, it revealed Oswald.

He looked shocked and concerned.

"Roland, my dear. What has got you so rattled this morning?." He asked, wobbling in.

That's when I finally broke down to him.
"I came to Gotham to kill what created me. What molded me into what I am now, but there's someone who wants to kill me."
I looked into his eyes.

He joked at first.
"Tch, Tch, not to worry dear. I've asked for you specifically to be on the no-kill list." Oswald placed his hand over his heart, and told me honestly.

"I'm serious Oswald. I came to Gotham knowingly. I'm already in deep with this city, and that's what I'm writing my book about. The one you asked me about that day. I can tell you were intrigued. That's why I chose you. You're different. Like me."

I kept eye contact with him and he grinned.

He leaned forward then, and asked me what my interest in Gotham was, and I broke down to him, telling him about my stalker and all of his little "gifts" he's left me. I told him how I felt like I was being watched ever since I came back from Arkham.

"My writing explains it all. I've felt like there's been a target on my back, and I wanna find out why."

Oswald and I shared more eye-contact, and he placed his hand over mine.
He told me he would have someone watch over me. That he was there to make Gotham safe again. Not only as The Mayor, but as my friend.
"Besides, you might already know him."

We talked for a little bit more and then he told me he had to leave soon.

Before he left, I asked him why he came over this morning.

He tensed up for a moment and asked me if I'd like to be his plus-one from now on. He said it's good for the viewers to see us together. To leave them guessing. He said it was good for the public eye.

"I'll do it." I said. "You'd do anything for me."

With that, Oswald smiled and left.

When he reached the car he came in, he looked over to the driver.

"Victor, I have a job for you."

-

My phone rang after Oswald left.

"Hello?" I spoke.

"Hi. Roland? This is Lee. How would you like to have dinner tonight? Say 8:00?"

"That sounds perfect, Lee."

"Great! Meet us at Bamonte's."

Click. The reciever clicked off.

I took that as an opportunity to start getting ready for the day.
I already took a shower the night before so getting dressed was my main objective.

Deciding for something classy, but still casual enough to wear to work, I started to leave.
There was still no notecard on the floor, which I was both thankful for and nervous about.
Locking up my apartment, I left for the day.
