The sun shone, coloring the once dark sky with the hues of purple, orange and pink. She was still at her spot, staring at nothing before it finally sunk in.
Her father actually left her.
As the light from the sun finally slipped in from the window, the room brightened. It erased the cold feeling and showers the room with new life and hope; a new life without anyone to think of and hope that she'll get pass through this challenge. Chinami finally stood up, blinking a few times before roaming her eyes around the room that was once filled with three people; her mother, her father, and herself. Once her green irises landed on a paper on top of the table, her forehead formed creases and her face was clouded with confusion. On the paper, it wrote:
Went away for a while. Be right back.
Be right back, my ass. Chinami cursed and crumpled the paper, throwing it at the bin, before three loud knocks boomed around the room. She suddenly felt cold as her heart raced for the nth after last night and peaked throught the peephole. On the other side was a burly man with a scar over his face, his hair was shaved at the sides, and wore sunglasses. From what the man looks like, he's a loan shark, standing behind her door to collect debts. She knew they had debts but they never once borrowed money from loan sharks.
"Hey, missy!" The burly man started, making Chinami jump in surprise. "I know you're in there. Your dad left with a huge sum and I'm here to collect 'em."
There must be a mistake! They never borrowed from them. She could ne―And that's when it finally hit her. The times when her father had money for gambling, the times when he'd buy groceries and other clothes, and the times when he was away. He actually borrowed from loan sharks! That idiot.
Another three loud knocks from the other side of the door stopped Chinami from thinking but it did not stop her mind from having too much to think about. Her mind was full. And she had enough.
Chinami stood there as she waited for the man on the other side of the door to leave. But before he could, he banged on the door once more, leaving another loud boom to resonate around the room.
She sighed. Where could she find money to pay this debt? Actually, where could she find money to pay anything? Electric bills, water bills, tuition fee, renting fee, groceries, and other necessities? Not to mention other debts that piled up since her mother's passing. She may be independent, but it was too much for a 16-year old girl like her to take. But it couldn't be helped since she was all she could count on. No one else.
She was alone.

It was a Monday when Chinami finally realized earlier that morning. She had prepared her bag and made her lunch. She fixed her hair and combed it tight into a ponytail. She wore her uniform and checked herself on the mirror. When everything was fixed, she grabbed her bag and lunch box, then zoomed out of her apartment, locking it behind her.
The way to school was a bit noisy as students from her school greeted each other. They talked like there was no tomorrow while Chinami stayed quiet. She had a novel in one hand while walking silently to school, moving on to one page after another.
It was quiet and Chinami enjoyed the silence until Nana attacked her from behind, causing Chinami to almost loose her balance but unfortunately dropping her book. This wasn't new to Chinami but it was still irritating.
"Could you stop doing that?" Chinami stood properly and smoothened her uniform and picked up the book that dropped because of the sudden attack. "You know, it's not funny."
