After spending the entire day at Sarah's 6pm rolls around and Mikey says he has to leave. An hour later Tyler and I also head out. We walk back home and change into clothes fit for the cold weather. When we're done Tyler takes out his bike from the garage and we ride away to some unknown destination because he has refused to tell me where we're going. So I sit back and enjoy the scenery and take note of places I've never been to. After about an hour and a half I realize that we are on some sort of deserted land and I start to feel very uncomfortable.
"You're not planning on killing a sister now are you Ty?" I ask and he chuckles.
"Now why would I do that Kitten?" He gets off the bike and helps me climb down.
"Well I did steal that hoodie of yours and it was kinda your favorite." I say with a shrug and he frowns a bit.
"Yeah now that we're on the subject I want that back, and no I'm not going to kill you or anything." I shrug once more and Tyler indicates for us to start walking. We walk the short distance on the pathway and then make our way into the woods and follow the trail. After sometime we come to a clearing and what stands before me is a run-down building with lights on with a lot of cheering and hollering going on inside. I furrow my brows.
"You brought me to a party, real mature of you Ty." He rolls his eyes at me.
"Just shut up and keep walking." I do exactly as I am told and shut my trap. We get to the front of the building and there are bouncers guarding the door. It seems Tyler is very familiar with them because they do not question him and simply step aside to let him in. Now when I walked in, I imagined a lot of scenes playing out and I tell you it was a lot. But not once did I think that I would be walking into a boxing arena. Damn straight, you heard me, Tyler Monroe just walked me into a boxing arena.
The room is crowded and filled with people yelling and cheering. There's a single arena in the middle of the building and there's a match currently going on. With my luck I turn at the exact moment when one of the fighters lands a devastating blow at his opponent that sends him falling to the ground and the crowd hollers. Jesus, that is not something I want to remember.
"Tyler are you sure we didn't walk into the wrong building?" I had to shout in order for him to hear me but he simply smiles and pulls me off to a corner that leads to a hallway. We walk the distance and we get to a door and he walks in without knocking. In here the noise is not so loud to the point that you have to yell when you want to speak but you can still hear the background noises. He takes a seat on one of the chairs then faces me before speaking.
"I brought you here because this is another part of my life that no one really knows about and I wanted you to be a part of it. As you've seen this is a boxing arena and I'm a boxer." When that bit of information sinks in, I also take a seat on one of the chairs and breathe through a sigh. Honestly I'm not surprised that Tyler is into something like this, what actually surprised me is the fact that he told me but most importantly he brought me here.
"Is it okay to say I'm not surprised?" I say through a smile and his usual smirk appears on his lips.
"Of course not, you know me so well." He says with an eye roll and I laugh.
"How long you've been doing this?"
"It's been over a year now, found it when I was out making a delivery sometime back and I got hooked." He explains with a shrug and I smile.
"Well I'm glad you told me, it means a lot."
"Yeah well I had to tell someone, nothing special to it." He says jokingly and I punch him. After we've settled a knock sounds at the door and someone pops their head in.
"You're up in ten Monroe." The guy says and is gone. I turn to look at Tyler with raised eyebrows.
"You've got a match right now?"
"Yeah I've got to go get ready and you need to stay right here." He says standing and I do the same.
"No I don't, I want to watch you fight." I say with a tilt to my chin stating that I'm not backing down and a glint comes to his eyes and he nods his approval. I help him wrap up his knuckles and we make our way out to the ring. When we get there people start screaming and chanting his name and I sneak a glance at Tyler.
"Okay so I may or may not be a bit famous around here." I snort and then make my way to a corner where I can stand and watch the match. Tyler is well built and has got the muscles on him but his opponent has got a good foot or two above him. When the match starts I'm both excited and nervous and I find myself yelling along with the crowd jeering Ty on. Due to the difference in height Tyler focuses more on landing punches to the guys body instead of his face and soon the match ends with Tyler being the winner. I screamed so loud it was a wonder I didn't lose my vocal cords.
He goes through three more matches and during his last match he gets punched a lot of times but still manages to come out victorious. There's an ear splitting grin on my face when he makes his way towards me and I hug him. He laughs and we go back to the room we first went in and he gets cleaned up and soon enough we're leaving. During the ride back home I chatter a lot about the match and the excitement I felt although I'm pretty sure he didn't hear half of what I was saying but it still felt good.
When we get home I'm a sleepy mess and can't wait to get to my bed but Tyler has other ideas. Instead of heading inside we make our way to the back of the house and climb the ladder to the top of the house. We get comfy on the roof and sit in a way that ensures we don't fall off and just stare at the sky.
"I wish life would always be like this." I say with a sigh after a couple minutes of silence. Without turning to look at me Tyler speaks up.
"Life can be whatever you wish it to be."
"Not always, sometimes life doesn't give you a choice." This time he turns and looks at me.
"There's always a choice even when it seems like there's none. Life is all about the choices we make and the aftermath of every choice. We will always have the choice to do what we feel is right, never think otherwise. Whatever decisions we make, whatever road we choose to follow is always a choice. And even when life doesn't give you one, you make one yourself and you fight for what you want. If you want it bad enough you'll definitely get it." With that he turns back around and continues gazing up at the stars.
I've never really put much thought into my life and the course it's running. For me it's always been about surviving the day and living to see the next. Whatever falls and achievements I've made, I always put to life. But I guess he's right because at the end of the day, our lives will always be about the choices we make and if we're strong enough to deal with the resulting consequences. And when life decides to throw you a curve ball and strips you of your right, you sure as hell believe that you can take it right back. So no, from now on I'm not going to let life or destiny make any choices for me.
