Have you ever experienced waking up in the morning totally relaxed, without any influencing factors? Me neither. It's 5:00 in the morning and my alarm clock is ringing off the hook. I was yawning and stretching my back in the bed. Cherry had already jumped up and run to the kitchen. Slowly I made my way to my desk chair to put on my clothes, which I had already made ready the evening before.
Today was the day. Today I will have to say goodbye to many people. As I ran into the kitchen to serve my little dachshund lady Chérie her breakfast, a sleepy Dani came crawling out of his room. With a sad smile he asked: "Do you really have to go for a whole year? Isn't a month or two enough?" "No, it must be a year," I murmured. He nodded sadly and came over to me. A little hesitantly, he then took me in his arms and squeezed me tightly. I could hear him crying.

To explain the whole situation a little. My name is Y/N, I am half Swiss, half Slovakian, I currently live in a apartment shared with 3 others in Switzerland, in Zurich, I am studying English language and literature in the second year combined with business and my roommate Katie and I have decided to take a year off in South Korea, in Seoul. In a few hours it will start. A dream that we have had for 4 years will finally come true.

After Cherry had been fed and we all enjoyed our last breakfast together, we headed for the airport. With 5 suitcases and my dog basket, we set off in Ben's car through the still little-filled streets of Zurich. It was shortly after 6 when we passed Lindt&Sprüngle and I almost jumped on Ben: "Stop the car! Stop!" I jumped out of the car and ran into the store. With a pain in my chest I bought my last chocolate croissant. I quickly ran back into the car. The others were a bit upset about my chocolate addiction. Personally, I don't think I have one.

Arriving at the airport I already saw our families waiting for us. Katie reached for my hand to squeeze it like crazy. I had to grin. Even though this might be one of the saddest goodbyes we've ever had, I leaned over and gave her a big kiss on the cheek. "Ready?" "Ready when you are," she answered me cheekily. Wide grinning we ran to our families.
Afterwards there was a lot of hustle and bustle, because everyone thought they knew better. At some point we managed to deliver our luggage and Cherry safely. So we trotted to the check-in.

My mother cried when she took me in her arms and gave me a last lecture about all the dangers in this foreign country. My tears burned like fire in my eyes. But I didn't want to cry. When it was my father's turn and gently stroked my head, he said: "Oh, my little girl is growing up so fast." He gave me a big kiss on the head. "And don't you dare bring a Korean back home, you here me?!" I smiled and shrugged my shoulders. "You never know if you'll meet prince charming," I answered boldly. With that we said goodbye to our flatmates and went hand in hand to the check-in. Just to be clear, we are not lesbians. We are more like sisters.

A few checks later, we sat on the chairs in front of a big window and waited until we were allowed to board in. We watched as the dawn slowly crept over the hills.

I am happy to receive feedback and suggestions for improvement. Please have mercy with the spelling mistakes xD. Next chapter will follow as soon as possible.
