One month.
One month trying to find a job.
One month of rejections from every job she applies to.
One month of sleepless crying nights.
“Ms. Black, we’re ready for your interview.”
Cecilia nods as she stands up, taking a deep breath as she bites her lip. (A habit she picked up from Zayn, seeing as she spends most of her time with him.) This interview was the biggest interview of them all.
She was being interviewed for a job for the most popular newspaper in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Times.
She and Zayn stayed up nights looking for more and more job offerings until they landed on this one. They wanted a short story author that could come up with one every week and she wasn’t about to give up that kind of opportunity.
But right now, her hope in getting that job was barely there, considering all the rejection she has gotten. But she never understood why that would happen. The moment they would read her writings, they would send after her right away. But the moment she speaks her full name, they would suddenly tell her that she wasn’t right for the job, leaving her dumbfounded.
“Hello, Ms. Black, Black right? Here it says Cecilia Cox.”
He had the perfect image of intimidation. Gray hair taking over the majority of his head, even though he doesn’t look that old. The suit and tie, the glasses, and the obvious image of wealth and money radiating off of him as he sat down in his too big of a chair behind his desk, scaring the shit out of Cecilia.
She smiled nervously as she nodded. “Hello. Um, yeah it was Cox, then Black, then Cox again recently.”
He nodded his head as he smiled. “Take a seat.”
“Thank you.”
“Let’s cut to the chase. My name is Jace Lawrence.” (A/N: I have no clue lol. Obviously I wasn’t going to put the name of the real owner.)
Cecilia’s eyes widened as she realized that she was being interviewed by the head of LA Times.
“And I don’t really do this. I don’t usually interview people but the moment I read some of your writing, I knew there was something special about you. I’m not going to keep you waiting and nervous any longer. I want you to take the position of the short story section of my newspaper.”
A smile spread across Cecilia’s face. “I…Oh my god. I can’t believe this. Thank you so much! I promise you won’t regret this decision!”
“I hope I don’t. But there is something. I’ve heard that you applied for other jobs and got rejected.”
She looks down as she nods.
“The thing is, Ms. Cox, I know for a fact, they were dying to hire you. And I also know the reason for them rejecting you.” Jace spoke.
She looked at him in confusion. “Y-you do? How?”
“I know the reason because I was offered what they were offered, but I know talent when I see it, or in this case, read it. So no amount of money was going to keep me from hiring you.”
Even though she was flattered by his words, she couldn’t help but fall into an even bigger pit of confusion. “Money? They were offered money to not hire me? Who would do that? Why?”
Jace looked at the innocent girl in front of him with sadness, seeing as she obviously had no clue at what had been happening.
