The ride to London was slow, especially for Cecilia. She just wanted to step foot in the airport just to be reassured that this was actually happening. With half an hour left, she put her headphones on as she blasted “American Dream” by MKTO, taking in all the lyrics and meanings behind it as she smiled.

Finally, her dream of becoming someone was actually happening. She was going to be free of everything she hated. She was going to be free of constancy.

Others would feel a little sad as they would reach the airport, knowing they were leaving their families behind, but Cecilia was not one of them.

Sure she was sad that she was leaving her father with her uptight mother, but all the excitement and happiness washed the sadness away as they reached Heathrow Airport.

“I’m not going down.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me! Mother, I’m leaving. Don’t you at least want to tell me goodbye?” Cecilia spoke, aggravated.

“Goodbye.” Aliya, her mother, spoke as she faced the front of the car, showing no signs of emotion, except for one. Complete and utter disappointment that her daughter didn’t live the life that she wanted her to. The uptight life where she would only talk to upper class people and wouldn’t give the time of day to anyone out of that category.

“You know what? Good luck at keeping dad with that attitude of yours. Goodbye, mother.” She spoke as she got out of the car, only to be met with a sympathetic look from her father.

“I’m sorry, baby girl.” John spoke as he helped her take the bags inside the airport.

“Don’t be. I’m just sorry that you have to live with her all by yourself now.” She joked.

“I’ll miss you around the house.” He said as he opened his arms.

As she felt the tears brimming in her eyes, she quickly engulfed her dad in a tight hug. “I’ll miss you too, daddy.”

“Tell Eleanor that I expect her to take care of you over in America.”

Cecilia laughed as she nodded. “Will do. I love you.”

John smiled at his daughter as he kissed her forehead. “I love you too. Be careful.”

“I will.”

As Cecilia got her bags and ticket checked, she entered the waiting room, seeing that she was the first of the passengers to arrive. And that was no coincidence since she purposely came three hours early.

Trying to ignore the fact that her own mother didn’t take a few seconds to hug her, she grabbed her phone and decided to text Eleanor that she was at the airport.

Eleanor and Cecilia met back when she was studying Literature in Manchester University. Even though Eleanor was a year older than her, they quickly got along, which was something that annoyed her mother. You see, Eleanor was from a very down to earth family, not rich but having enough to live happily. Seeing that she was out of the “upper class” group that her mother approved of, she quickly took a disliking to Eleanor, making Cecilia’s annoyance grow.

Once Eleanor told Cecilia about her decision to move to California, she was both upset and happy for her friend. They had even kept in touch the whole year that Eleanor was gone up until Cecilia made the bold decision of moving, making both girls ecstatic to live their new lives together.

Cecilia had thought that she would be alone in that waiting room for at least one more hour until she heard voices, followed by two figures emerging from the opened door.
