The next thing she saw was the sunlight streaming through the cracks of the curtains 'Todays the big day, isn't it," she muttered as they were woken up.'To gather their wits and prepare their things': the police had said. Haily scoffed 'as if we had anything to prepare' she thought bitterly, 'and even if we did-" she stopped realising that she did have her own something, something far more precious than a bunch of clothes. Slowly, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small silver necklace,it's pendant shining in the morning light. The last physical memory of their family history and another mystery of that night, since neither her or her brother remember taking it from their house. She sighed, hesitantly pulling the necklace over her head before taking it off, stuffing it back into her pocket.

"Hailllss"her brother called "are you ready yet???"

She groaned and called back "One sec! i just need to take a shower !"

A pause of silence before her brother yelled back "make it quick!"

She stepped into the shower, quickly washed her hair and got dressed. After she had gathered all of the clothes and toiletries the police had just given them, she thought back to when the police had found them. Shivering, Shaking and cold. So, so cold. People think they know what it feels to lose your parents. They pretend to understand the pain. But in reality they just seem to pity you. She never wanted to feel like that again. The smiles, the special treatment and worst of all, the judgement. Drowning in a sea eyes and whether or not she liked it, she knew she couldn't run away. Not when her brother's happiness was at stake. She imagined his smile. In other eyes, they saw a small, mischievous boy. 'But if you looked beyond his smile, his bright eyes' she thought, 'You would see what I see: a boy whose heart was broken. A boy who had already been through so much.' And although she hated to admit it, she thought he was fragile. Like glass. Something that could shatter at any second.

Haily stepped out of what she would call a silly excuse for a room and looked back one last time. Although it wasn't much, it had been their home for a week. She bit her lip and shook her head. 'what am I thinking, Its just a room' she thought and went to find her brother.
