|UNSOLVED MYSTERY|

“You know, you are mesmerizing when you smile like that,” Nathaniel admitted in a low voice. “It’s my favorite thing about you.” he added after a little pause.

Andrew wanted to kiss him so badly at this moment, but he barely kept to himself. His chest filled with warmth at Nathaniel’s words. He beamed at Nathaniel. “Thanks, Nathan.”

Nathaniel blushed at the nickname. It was the first time hearing Andrew call him like that. Andrew smirked, loving that he was the cause of his blush. He took a bite of a blueberry muffin, his taste buds reveling in taste. “M-mm, this one tastes good,” he said and took another bite.

They chatted a bit about school, and the topic of the Annual Christmas Gala came in the conversation. “You are going with Isabelle, right?” Nathaniel asked with a bit of sadness in his voice.

Andrew pretended not to notice it. He was thinking about the dance, too and didn’t even look forward to it that much. I will be stuck with the stupid and flirt Isabelle the whole night, and he will probably be in someone’s arms… instead of mine, Andrew thought bitterly.

“Maybe,” he mumbled. “...and you are?” Andrew gulped hard, not really wanting to know who will have Nathaniel on their arm that night.

“I kind of promised to Allyssa we’ll go together before we broke up, and she asked me the other day if the date was still on. I didn’t want to go, plus, I don’t even have appropriate clothing, but… I have to keep my promise.” he added quickly as he noticed the brunet stiffening in his seat.

Andrew knew he didn’t have the right to object, after all, he was going with his own girlfriend, but he couldn’t contain the green mist of jealousy clouding in his mind. Just the thought of Nathaniel with someone else infuriated him, especially if it was someone he had history with.

“Why did you even break up with her?” the words escaped his mouth before he even processed the implications of his question. Now, he will know that I am jealous which really he is and that he… cares. Andrew thought as slight wave of panic washed over him.

“Well… you know, things didn’t work anymore.” Nathaniel scrambled after a few panic stricken attempts to explain without revealing too much. Andrew shoot him a suspicious look, wondering if the blonde was lying to him. After a couple of minutes, awkward Nathaniel broke the silence. “Let’s go.”

After saying goodbye to his mom, they went outside. “Gross...” Nathaniel groaned as the cold air hit in the face. He peered at Andrew who seemed deep in thought. Taking a risk, Nathaniel grabbed his gloved hand and squeezed it gently. Andrew looked at him, his green eyes under the street light.

“Andrew, are you… are you jealous?” Nathaniel couldn’t resist asking, hope just barely recognizable in his voice.

Andrew averted his eyes from the blonde, not saying a thing. Nathaniel pulled on his hand gently, stopping them. He smiled at the frowning brunet, and pecked his lips quickly, “Don’t be.”

Nathaniel was cuddled on Andrew’s chest, listening to his heartbeat. After their moment outside, Andrew softened and they went to his penthouse to get some stuff for the sleep over. They had a nice evening watching some movie on Netflix. Andrew met Nathaniel’s father who was just as pleasant as his mother, he had to admit he was jealous of Nathaniel’s family.

When looking at Nathaniel’s family, he couldn’t help it but compare it to his own, and that only saddened him. It made him realize how unloving and distant he felt from his parents. The only one who showed him love was Bridget who wasn’t around anymore.
