I jolt up, surrounded by unfamiliar smells and a throbbing pain on one side of my face. I look around. Where the hell am I?
"Morning," a girl says, walking into the bedroom. "How are you feeling?"
"Where the fuck am I, and who are you?" I snap. I'm not scared. Not really. The girl has purple hair, darker than my hair, but still. She's wearing a little make up, an oversized hoodie, zipped up and some black yoga pants. Her pale blue eye's linger on the left side of my face.
"You're in my apartment, and my name is Scarlett," Scarlett looks extremely apologetic. She hands me one of the mugs in her hand. I sniff it. Coffee. It's piping hot and I scold my tongue when I take a sip. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine," I lie. "Do you have a mirror?"
Scarlett looks like she's about to burst into tears at any moment. She leads me to the bathroom. "I'm so sorry. I couldn't get you out before this, but you're alive!"
I don't say anything. I'm hideous. I have a serious burn down the left of my face, the fur singed around it. I cover the scarring with my hair. better. When did this even happen?
I close my eyes and remember. The fire. That I set. That Alastor ran into. A switch is flicked inside me and I round on Scarlett. "How long was I asleep, and how do I get out of here?"
"Umm.... You were out for......" she looks regretful. She smells like coffee. Friendly. "Two...."
"Two days?!" I gasp. Alastor must be worried sick. Jeez, Zain...
"No..... weeks," I freeze. I can't be hearing right. "You were asleep for two weeks."
I don't answer. I just walk out of the bathroom, scanning the apartment for a door. There. I race out into the streets, with no idea where I am. This might take a while. In flash of white flames, I'm a wolf, what was left of my stupid dress falling off me and I bound through the streets. I head in a random direction, goings fast as I can. I'm searching for something anything I recognise. I skid to a stop by an alley way.
I turn into a dark alleyway, taking a shortcut to the nearest bar. My ears perk up and lead drops in my stomach.
"Hey there pup," purrs a voice form behind me.
I went this way the first time I saw Alastor. i trot down the little alley, fully aware how odd it is for a tiny little lilac wolf to be in these parts of Hell. I don't care. I just wasn't to get back to my Strawberry. From here, I know how to get to the Rusted Spoon, and from there, the Happy Hotel. I bolt. Weaving my way through people, I make it to...... the charred remains of the Rusted Spoon. I walk over ash and smoking pavement, seeing a person sized pile of ash where I was. A rafter or table must have been burnt in my place. Weird. I look around.
You did this.
Worthless.
Useless.
Weak....
Stop it. I shake my little wolf head, not letting myself think those thoughts and fall into the habit hole again. Too many times I've had to claw my way out again. Not today bitches.
I clamber over the ruble to find something. If weren't in my wolf form, I'd have tears streaming down my face. Empty. I'm hollow with despair as I stand snd stare at something he would never leave behind. Alastor's staff was there, black and sooty, melted and bent. But there was do denying that was his. After I passed out..... he must of come back in, my 'wall' failing as it no longer had and energy source. I whimper. I gently bend my head and pick it up with my mouth, not willing to leave it behind. I slowly make my way to the hotel. If... if...........
I stand on my hind legs and scratch gently at the Happy Hotel doors. The staff in my mouth makes motion awkward, but I'm not putting it down. Angle opens the door.
"What?! Were closed! Fuck off!" I doesn't even look down at me. I bark around Alastor's staff.
"What the fuck are you?"
He doesn't......he doesn't recognise me.....
"What are you doing with Alastor's microphone?" Angle's eye's narrowed in suspicion. I bark at him again. How does he not realise who I am. Is the scaring that bad. A jolt of pain rips through me. He must see something in my eyes...
"Who the fuck is at the door at 2 in the morning?!" A very annoyed Zain opens the door wider, staring at me like he's just seen a ghost.
"Do you know who the Hell this is, Z?" Angle asks. Another stab of pain.
"Where the fuck were you?!" Zain whisper yells at me. I wince, offering a quiet bark. "Well why the fuck are you still a wolf?"
I raise an eyebrow, giving a 'come on dude' bark. He seems to get the message. He opens the door all the way, stepping to the side so I can come in. I race upstairs but Zain stops me. "V, it's been two weeks, we already gave away your room."
I stop. What about Ambrose?
"Some chick came in and was like 'I want to stay in room 47'. Amber I think her name is," he mumbles, trailing off. I yap, leaping up the stairs. Coming to room 47, I paw at the door. A girl opens it.
"Can I help....you...." Ambrose's voice came out of her. "Valerie, what took you so damn long?!" She picked up some clothes and threw them at me. "He's waiting were the knife hit."
Ambrose closed the door, obviously having been a messenger. "What the fuck? Where the knife hit? What sort of bull is this?"
I ignore Zain. I bark at him. "What?" I bark again, nodding to the clothes. "Oh..."
He got the message and turned around. In a flash of white, I'm me again, and am yanking on the stretchy T shirt and yoga pants. "At least Ambrose knew exactly what I'd need," I say and sprint down stairs.
I run into Angle. "Toots! You're alive!"
"I was the wolf, dip shit," I yell at him, re-adjusting my grip on Alastor's microphone, once again on the move. I yell at Zain over my shoulder; "If a purple haired girl named Scarlett rocks up, tell her burn victim says thanks,"
I was getting weird looks all through the streets. I ignored them. The fresh scar on my face was mostly hidden by my hair. I run and run and run. I finally get to the forest.
"Welcome back," she whispers to me.
"Good to be back," I pant. "Is he...?"
"Yes,"
Thats all I need. As fast as I can with his microphone, I run to the place that he accidentally stabbed me in my artery. That was the last time I was meant to be dead but wasn't. I'm crying. I slow down, fixing my hair. I close my eyes. Deep breath. Just.....smell.
Pine.
grass.
leaves.
Fresh.
Nuts.
Strawberries.
I snap my eyes open, turning to where I smelt him. I can't actually see him, but I know he's there, the scent of Strawberry making me warm and giddy inside. I tip toe over to him. Alastor is lying on the grass, facing the river, fast asleep. If his eyes were open, he'd be staring right at me. As it his, he just looks so... peaceful. This is what I want.
I rest the mangled microphone against a tree, kneeling next to Alastor. My Strawberry. My Su talun. I smile softly, laying so my face is inches from his, snuggling close, my tail wrapping around us, inhaling his strawberry scent, and just.... Being.
