It's been one week since the hotel room drama, I've handed my notice in at work and start my new job at another counselling firm next week. It was the only option I had really, I probably wouldn't of had a job anyway.
I got pulled into office and met Peter for the first time where I got a verbal warning for my behaviour. True to Emily's word Darren got fired for using his position of power and because Peter is Emily's brother, although that can't really be written down as a reason for firing someone. I've tried to keep my distance from Darren I think we both need some breathing space, we will talk when the time is right.
I meet up with Beth for some early cocktails while my mum babysits Grace and while Oscar is being looked after by Oliver.
"This is nice" I lean back in the lounge chair, we've gone to a London hot spot and are currently sitting on a roof terrace watching the sun set.
"I agree, I haven't been out properly since Oscar was born!" she sighs in bliss peacefulness.
"So lets catch up with Darren drama" she raises an eyebrow and sips her very colourful cocktail.
"Not much if I'm honest, we've thrown a few texts to each other. Nothing major just checking how each of us are. Over text isn't really the best way to discuss what we need to" I sigh.
"No you're right, are you going to see him? Or is this it?"
"I don't know, Darren still after what happened with Emily is everything to me. I know what he did was awful but I also know that isn't him and there was something more to his behaviour and I owe him the right to explain. He lost his job over this" I bite my lip and can only blame myself for yet another reason why he should just give up on me.
"That is not the only reason he lost his job, he knew what trouble he could get himself into while dating the bosses sister!" she gives me a sympathic smile.
"True" I nod and take a long sip of my cocktail.
I hitch a breath in, "What's in these?" I suck my cheeks in at the sour taste.
Beth shrugs, "I asked for two cocktails, I didn't know the menu so I said surprise me" she smiles, "I like it, whatever it is" she laughs.
"I feel too many of these and I'll be drunk dancing on that table" I nod over to the table in the middle of the roof terrace.
"Well knock them back girl because that's something I'd love to see" Beth laughs and I join her too.
We spend a few hours in the roof bar until we both know the signs that we need to go home.
"After you" I nod her through the door.
I follow Beth through the double doors outside onto the busy streets of London. She holds her hand towards me and I grab ahold of her. It's a thing we do, we've always done. It's our safety net between us, I'll hold her hand, she holds mine. We are safe.
I quicken my pace to walk side by side, "It's been a good night I've really enjoyed it"
"Me too, although I'm so ready for my bed" she laughs.
"What's the time?"
"I think it's ten?"
"woah ten at night two hours past my bed time" I laugh.
We make our way to the underground and catch our train home. Its a short walk to Beth's house where I plan to ring for a taxi.
"Do you want a cuppa while you wait?" Oliver asks as me and Beth walk into the kitchen.
"Oh yes please" I place my bag down and grab my phone.
I pick it up and see a message, it's from Darren.
