The past few months have been incredibly exhausting and the most exciting time of my life.
After learning me and Darren are having twins things went from zero to one hundred in a matter of minutes.
If it wasn't a shock to tell everyone that we are expecting it certainly was to inform them that there wouldn't be one baby but two. Grace is beside herself with excitement and after wishing for a sister, we all found out together we will be welcoming her a brother and a sister.
We've spent the last few months collecting baby items, doing the nursery. I've been attending pregnancy groups which I missed out on the first time round. It feels slightly like this is my first pregnancy in a way as I missed out on all the midwives appointments, the baby classes and the excitement.
I've now reached thirty weeks and I'm definitely feeling it more now, carrying two babies is so much more work than just one. With it being the heat of summer only makes it harder.
"How you feeling?" Beth looks over me with sympathy.
"Don't even ask" I sigh as I waddle into her house and help myself to some cold water in the fridge.
"That bad eh?" she laughs.
"Have you ever questioned yourself whether your knickers are wet from pissing yourself or from extreme sweat?" I lower myself onto the kitchen chair.
"I can't say I have.. No" she sits next to me.
"Well that's the predicament I'm dealing with now"
"Well shouldn't you go and check? I mean these are new kitchen chairs and sweat I can deal with.. Piss not so much" she laughs.
"It's not funny" I narrow my eyes but then follow with a chuckle.
"so When's your next scan?" she sips her water.
"In two weeks, I'm having to have them every two weeks now. They are thinking of doing a c-section" I lean back in the chair to try and get comfortable.
"oh whys that? I thought you wanted to try natural?"
"I did but after speaking to the doctor he said it may be better to have the section. As one, I've already had one and that carries risk trying to have a natural birth with a single pregnancy but obviously with twins the risk is greatly increased. They reckon due to my small frame and my current section scar I'll be putting that under to much pressure. I think to be honest I'll take their advice it's not worth the small risk of something awful happening"
"oh god no, it's best to be safe. Just means you'll have Darren and Grace on your every demand while you rest and recover" she smiles.
"Well this is the other reason for having the section" I laugh.
Me and Beth have a good catch up until its time I need to collect Grace from school.
I collect Grace and treat her to a macdonalds since its friday, once we are home she has a bath and I allow her to play on the ipad until bed time.
Darren comes home from work at five and we sit down to order our Friday night take out.
"How was work?"
"Yes another good day, we've taken on two more offices on the outside of town. Demand for our services mean we can expand" he smiles.
"Oh that's amazing" I nod.
Darren has worked so hard in building his company and the fact he can now expand into two more premises is a huge achievement.
"Yeah, life is pretty amazing" he places his hand on my stomach.
