BETTY POV
I watched everyone at dinner. They were all talking and laughing. But me? I just couldn't find any happiness in that situation. Life was the same everyday. It so sad for me. I didn't belong into this life of class and just "sitting still and looking pretty." I was made to travel and do adventurous things. It'll be my choice when I want to get married...but not now.
"I have to go." I said and got up. Nobody even looked up at me. They hadn't even noticed I got up. I began to cry and I ran through the docks. I ripped the necklace off my neck and I took the bracelet off. I ran through the boat and just ripped off all of the jewelry I owned. I don't know why...but I did.
I reached the back of the ship. I wiped my face and brought myself to calm down. I got up on the rail and climbed overboard. I made sure nobody saw me. I looked down at the ocean. If I let go of the railing, I would fall into the ocean water. I just don't feel happy anymore. I'm trapped and nobody cares about me. This was the only reasonable thing to do...until:
"Miss, don't do it." A man said. I turned around and saw a man there. He was probably close to my age, maybe a couple years older. He had dark-black hair and green-eyes. His clothes were dirty and he had a very clean face. His hair was covered by a beanie.
"Stop it! Don't do anything!" I yelled.
"Come back over-"
"No, stay where you are! I'm gonna let go!" I cried. I could hear him walk a little closer. He leaned against the rail.
"No, you won't. You would've done it already. Ma'am, how old are you? You seem pretty young. Have a lot of life left."
"I'm seventeen. It's doesn't matter! Go away!" I screamed at him. I looked at the ocean. I didn't want him to go away though. I really hope he stays.
"Well, take it from someone who's twenty and homeless, you don't wanna do this. If you jump over, I'll go in with you. We can freeze together." He said. I shot a dirty look at him. He was taking his jacket off. This guy was insane.
"Why do you care so much? Besides, you'll probably break all of your bones falling in. Wouldn't want you to be helpless."
"I don't mind, really. But believe me, the fall isn't the scary part. It's the freezing water down there. Trust me when I tell you, the water down there is so cold that you'll freeze to death within the first 15-minutes. You seem like a smart girl." He said and moved a little closer. He was really good with words. I didn't even know him and somehow...I knew that he truly cared. He was naturally empathetic.
"I am. I'm very smart. So smart that I graduated at fifteen and took college courses early. I'm going into third year of college in September. Why am I telling you this?! You don't care! There's no way you can care. I'm just some girl." I sighed. I felt his hand touch my arm. I looked at him. He gave a weak smile. I don't know why, but something in my body told me to take his hand. And I did. I took his hands and turned my body around.
"That was a close one. My name is Jughead Jones. And you?"
"Elizabeth Cooper. Soon to be Elizabeth Andrews. So, I guess it's technically Elizabeth Cooper-Andrews. I don't know. Just call me Betty Cooper." I replied. A smirk came on his face and he chuckled. He was adorable. I don't know why but I felt my heart warm up. Not in the way you think though. My heart warmed up because he was the first person that truly cared.
"Our next goal is to find you a name." He chuckled. I giggled and began to climb over. However, I slipped on my dress. I fell off and I screamed. He caught me though. I was just dangling off the back of the ship and screaming for my life.
"Help me! Please!" I sobbed and screamed. I changed my mind. I want to live.
"I have you! I won't let go! Pull yourself up!" He yelled. I tried pulling myself up. He pulled me up as well. He fell on top of me on the ship. We just laid there on the dock with him just on top of me. We heard loud footsteps. A few crew members came by.
"What the heck...you disgusting pig! Get off of her!" One of the crew members yelled. They ran over and grabbed Jughead off of me. I was just in shock and still crying so I couldn't say anything or even move. All I know, Archie isn't going to be happy about this.
