It was a quiet night in Riverwood, it was a few hours before mid night, and meny families waited silently outside, at the entence that would lead to Whiterun.

It was the night the families had been waiting for months to come, the Stomcloak soldiers would be returning tonight, they had finally won the war and had taken Solitude, Jarl Ulfric was now the true high king.

Everyone stood silent, even though some of the children that didn't understand what was happening, understood that now was not the time for bafoonery, and stayed still, waiting with their families, while the adults held their breaths, waiting for the anwser they were waiting for.

(y/n) waited there too, every piece of them raddled with worry.

Ralof was a well respected soldier, who could handle himself in a fight, he told her as he left seven months ago that he would be fine, that she had nothing to worry about, he promised her that he would come home to her, even with his comforting words, she still worried.

Fiddling with her wedding ring, wishing deeply that he would be able to keep that promise he made.

It had only been eight months since they two had wed, being able to have a month with eachother before Ralof had to report back to Windhelm, but durring that month, they were both as happy as they could be, Ralof proved to surprise you on a daily, from cooking  breakfest for her in the morning to teaching her a few new things that wouldn't ever be shared with any else.

But this time, this time, (y/n) would be the one to surprise Ralof.

Another hour passed, as everyone waited, as the soldiers strolled through the gate.

The silent streets of Riverwood was no longer so quiet, although it was hushed, (y/n) could hear the crys of wives, the shushed laughs of children, and the quiet exchange of 'I missed you' from the soldiers.

She stood amongst it all, everone around her finally had their family all together again, while (y/n) searched for her love, she glanced over to other families while she searched, she saw fathers that had been gone to long, holding their children for the first time in years, (y/n) felt lucky that Ralof hadn't been gone for more then a year, unlike some people had, she saw moms hugging their children tightly, glad that they were finally home.

But there was one family that her eyes lingered on for longer, a  soldier holding his son for the first time, the babe wasn't even 2 months old yet, his wife stood infront of him, smiling through the tears, as the soldier stood shocked, he looked happy, he also looked ready to cry.

But before long she looked away, only to see a tall blond searching for someone aswell, as she spotted him, he had seen her, he beamed at her, he ran over quickly and held her tightly, and kissed her.

A moment passing and they stood in silence as they embraced eachother, (y/n) finally spoke up. "You're alive! are you ok?"

"Well i would hope i am alive, I'd be scared to brake my promise to you, death would be my least concern if I broke your promis." he joked with her. "Yeah I'm good, we sent the imperials running and i get to see my beautiful wife, what more could i ask for?"

She smirked to herself. "Hey, I have a riddle for you."

"Oh you do? Well lay it on me"

"I can bring a smile to your face, a tear to your eye, or even a thought to your mind. But, i can't yet be seen, what am i?" Ralof tilted his head to the side, his brows knitting together in confusion. "If you can't get it by the time we get home I will give you a hint." She smiled up at him dearly, and he kissed her forehead.

Grabbing her hand and starting to slowly lead her to their home. "Well then, we better start heading there then."

Whist the two of them walked home Ralof tried his best to guess the answer to the riddle, some answers being anything but silly, and some were actually thought through. "What do you mean it's not a dog? It makes sense!" He joked, causing (y/n) to laugh at her loveable husband. "Well, we are home, I'd like that hint I was told about." He turned to her, infront of the house they lived in together.

"Well, eight months ago we married." He nodded. "Seven months ago you left for the war." His face twisted in confusion, wondering where this was leading. "Six and half months ago I found out... and we only have two months left till we can see them and hold them in our arms." Ralof stayed quiet for a moment, trying to figure out how this new information would help his solve the riddle.

His eyes widened in shock as he looked down at his wife, he wasn't able to think of a way to form his answer into a sentence. "... Are you?..." Was all he could stutter out, (y/n) nodded. She watched as her husband's expression morphed from being shocked into udder excitment as he grabbed his wife and held her close. "You're pregnant!" He held her carefully, not wanting to hurt the baby, nor his pregnant wife. "We're going to be parents! We're going to have a child! When's he due? What are we going to name him?" Ralof spat out question after question, as he released his wife, she chuckled at him as she spoke up.

"Its due in two months, and what makes you think it's going to be a he?" She lead her husband into their house, he closed the door behind him as he continued.

"Well of course he's going to be a he, it's my lad!" He boisterously said.

"Well dear, I'm sorry to say that it's going to be a little girl." She battered back.

"Mhmmm, suuure, how can ou be so certain?"

"Well, I do believe that the baby is growing inside of me, we have a connection." He chuckled to himseld, as he crouched down to be at (Y/n)'s stomach.

He rested his head on her stomach. "Since you and your mom have such a connection, mind telling her that she's wrong and that daddy knows you're a little boy." (y/n) giggled to herself at the sight before her, only causing Ralof to kiss her stomach and stand back up and kiss her.

Once the kiss was broke, Ralof rested his forehead agaisnt hers, stairing into her eyes. (y/n) barely noticed it, but she saw a flash of worry go across his face. She smiled at him and grabbed his head and rubbed it in reassuants.

"Do you think we are ready to be parents?" He let out a low sigh and closed his eyes. "What if we arn't ready for this? And we mess it up... What if I'm not a good father?" She smiled up at her worried husband, and gave him a kiss on the nose, then hugged him tightly.

"We can never truly be ready, but we can try to be, but I know one thing for certain, you'll be a natural, you have such a big heart and you'll get along with the baby just fine, you're like a big child anyway." He chuckled as his partner tried to uplift the mood. "But everything will be fine, just as long as we work to being amazing parents together, we should be able to do anything together." He hugged her tightly, (y/n) noticed the tension in his shoulders lift, and she felt the mood go back to what it was before.

"Thank you honey." He kissed her forehead, and surprised her by lifting her off her feet and holding her bridal style. "Well, I say we get baby mama to bed," He looked at her stomach. ""What do you think little one?" She chuckled but was quickly shooshed. "Shhh, I'm listening to what he is saying, mhmm, yes I would agree with that." She laughed aloud at the show her husband put on, Ralof turned his head back to (y/n) with a smile. "Are you judging our conversaton honey? How rude!" He chuckled, and shook his head. "But he agrees that we should be off to bed."

"I'm sure she does agree." Ralof carried (y/n) to their shared bed and laid her down on her side, then crawled into the bed with her, (y/n) turned to face her husband, and kissed him.

"I love you, sleep good."

"Love you too, goodnight." She turned back, her back facing him, he grabbed her and pulled her closer, causing her to chuckled but excepted it. He slinked his arms around her stomach, spooning her.

As per the usual, (y/n) had fallen alseep before Ralof, he held her tightly, not wanting to let her go, worried that if he let her go that he would lose this moment. He swore to himself that night, that nothing was going to happen to (y/n) nor the little baby she carried.
