Nobody goes against me

Nobody goes against me. Not ever.

Especially not members of my own gang.

When Aidan came into my office this morning and told me that we’d been infiltrated, my jaw clenched. I was absolutely furious. Someone had deceived me. In my gang!

My hands balled into fists as Aidan rambled on. But at least he’s trustworthy. At least Aidan won’t betray me.

“Mason,” breathed Aidan, hardly daring to meet my eyes. “Mason, I don’t know how he did it but we’ve got to find him. He betrayed us. We... We’ve got to get rid of him before he-”

I cut him off with one gesture, my hand shaking. “We don’t have to do anything, Aidan,” I snarled. “I will find the scoundrel and punish him, not you. You will stay here.”

Aidan’s mouth falls open. “But-”

Rage punched me in the guts. “I said: Stay here!”

For a couple of seconds, Aidan looked like he was going to protest, but he should know me better than that. No one disobeys my orders.

“All right, Mase,” he said finally, watching me as I swept from the room. “Suit yourself.”

The door slammed shut behind me and I strode down the corridors, half wondering whether I should’ve let Aidan come with me. We’ve been friends since high-school, Aidan and I, along with Chase and Stephen. I passed the latter two standing guard outside one of the elevators and nodded to them to join me. “Find Aidan,” I muttered, deciding that it would be better to have all three of them with me.

They are, after all, like my brothers. I owe my life to each of them.

Chase and Stephen hurried off at once, returning soon with a slightly bewildered Aidan at their heels. I didn’t bother apologising to him for my rudeness. Instead, we got into my black SUV and I started the engine.

Speeding through the dark streets, we spent most of the journey in a bitter, purposeful silence.

Finally, however, Stephen broke it. “Hey, man.”

He said it to me, leaning over to lightly tap my shoulder. I sighed before looking around. “What?”

Stephen grinned at my attitude. “Calm down, man. That’s all. We’ll catch that little bastard and blow off his head. Then we can let off some steam at one of the clubs. Maybe we’ll find some hot chicks. What d’you say?”

I exhaled again. "Don't fucking tell me to calm down. He betrayed me. That little bastard betrayed me. And he will face the fucking consequences. This isn’t a joke, Stephan. I don't want to hear another word from you, either, or I’ll kick your ass."

The car fell silent. I could tell the others were exchanging glances behind my back, but I honestly couldn’t care less. I didn’t need their stupid conversation.
