I roared and banged my fists down on the mahogany table, so violently that I could’ve sworn the wood cracked. "Listen, Alexander! We've been attacked and I highly doubt that my men would dare to go against me. That only leaves your men and they might’ve let someone into my estate!"

Alexander took a swig of his drink before he placed it back down with a thud, slightly irritated but hiding it well. "Calm down, Mason!” he said, shaking his head at me. “You know me well enough to know that I’m the last man who’d betray you - I’d never conspire with those bastards! As for my men, I know they wouldn't do anything without my permission, so I’m pretty sure they can be ruled out too."

I glared at him, not knowing what to say to this, and he stood up.

"If you don't trust me or my men, go and check the security camera," he snapped. “But I have other matters to attend to and I’m leaving.” He flung his jacket over his shoulders, then turned on his heel and stormed out of my office.

The door slammed shut behind him.

I pinched the bridge of my nose as I rolled up my sleeves, loosening my tie. Then I dropped into the leather office chair and turned on the monitor. Deciding to just do as I was told, I double-clicked on the camera device, then clicked the playback button to enter the menu. I selected the channel and started playing the CCTV footage.

Maybe there was some truth in what Alexander had said.

But the hours passed and I still couldn’t find a clue as to who was behind this. Some of the recording tapes were even cut in places, which only added to my suspicion.

There's something fishy going on here; nobody could’ve made it into my grounds unless someone let them in.

I sighed again and moved onto the next video. But I soon noticed that this one was different from the others. It showed the middle of my house, the living room, to be precise.

Except, it wasn’t just the living room. A pair of bodies were entwined in the centre, halfway between the coffee table and the sofa.

What? I leaned closer, straining to see whether this clip had the answers behind the break-in. But somehow, even before I’d seen it properly, I knew it didn’t.

One of the entwined figures looked horribly familiar and my stomach plummeted as she turned her head slightly, her long hair falling over her face…

Damn! My hands balled into fists, my knuckles white.

It was Abrielle. My lover, Abrielle. Making out with her bastard of a friend in the middle of my house.

I stared. What the Hell was she doing? Everything else in my mind seemed to have gone blank.

I went through the clip several more times, each one feeling like a punch to the guts. What had I done to deserve this? What had I done to deserve to be cheated on by the person I trust?
