Winter: Story of the Seasons

Chapter 3

     "WHAT?!" Winter exclaimed. "H-How? I'm not brave, I'm not pure of heart! Why me?" she asked. "Sweetie, calm down, it's okay..." her mother tried. "Don't tell me to calm down!" she jerked away from her mother's hug. "I have powers that I have no idea how to control! I'm only 16! I can't be a-a queen!" she stumbled on the last word realizing the full implications. "I believe I'm here to help you with that." a new voice said behind her. She whipped her head toward the voice, nearly giving herself whiplash. It was the queen's adviser Alaska! "I remember the first day the queen had her powers. She panicked just as much as you are, but I promise it'll be okay." Alaska said giving her a hug. "And you are brave and pure of heart. That's why I knew it would be you." she smiled."The queen knew too. Ever since the day she met you."

     Tears pricked Winter's eyes as she remembered the first time she had met the queen. She had become sort of the queen's personal assistant after that. Even though she was only the snowflake maker the queen had wanted her. "So what do I do now?" she asked Alaska. "You come to the castle with me so I can train you in your abilities and how to be queen." Alaska said offering her a hand up. She hadn't realized that she had sunk to the floor. Or how hard she was shaking. "I know that you're scared." Alaska said noticing it as well. "But I promise you that it'll all get easier." Winter tried to find reassurance in her words but by the time she was at the door she was still shaking. "What about my parents?" she asked. Alaska bit her lip as she answered. "I'm so sorry but they can't come. It'll only make the transition harder." "What transition?" she asked. "The transition into a new chapter of your life." And with that they stepped out of the house and into the future.
