Richard's POV

This...this couldn't be real... What just happened...couldn't of just happened...right..? It's all in my...head.. No. This was really happening. I don't know if I can handle this. No matter what happened, no matter how bad this got, I thought my parents would have my back. Even though they weren't very active in my life, I thought they would help me through anything, like normal parents...at least good parents... But that's not what happened..

I followed the police officer to the calling booth and dialed my mom's number. They picked up after 2 or 3 rings and asked to speak with me. I said hi and there was silence for a few moments before the real conversation started:

"Heya Mom.."

"Richard? Richard is that you on  the line?"

I chuckled nervously.

"Yes yes... I'm on the phone."

My mom gave a sigh of relief. I thought because of that things would be okay, but how wrong I was.

"I'm assuming you know everything that transpired today."

"Yeah I know..."

"Do you know how much harder you've made our lives? Do you have any idea of the money you've wasted, time thrown away, most importantly, how disappointed we are in you?"

I was caught of guard. I didn't expected her to say that. I thought she would of asked if I was okay, how I'm feeling, if I need anything. She didn't say anything like that at all during the call. I stayed silent.

"I'm guessing you didn't, since you've been taking this life we gave you for granted. That's exactly why what happened today happened. That and you are irresponsible. I mean we knew you were irresponsible, but not to this degree. To burn the whole house down? Carelessness. Me and your father already have to work most of time of the day and night to keep you living comfy and cozy. And you repay us with this? Now we will have to work even more to repay the cost of this."

She paused to take a deep breath. I was still flabbergasted. But I remembered the sole purpose of calling her.

"M-Mom..since the house is gone and you and Dad are far away..could I stay at a friend's place for the time being?"

She actually laughed. Full on laughed. Kinda creepy not gonna lie.

"Obviously not. Your time on your phone and electronics talking to your "friends" is what caused this mess in the first place! Me and father are renting out an apartment near the school for you to live. That is the best we can afford at the moment. Since you somehow managed to survive on your own in a house, I'm sure you'll be fine."

She didn't say anything about replacing my electronics and I wouldn't dare ask. The call continued a bit longer but it was basically more bantering about how disappointed they were in me, or how pathetic I was and how I performed, and other soul crushing garbage. In all honestly, it did hurt that my parents or at least Mom was taking this position on this and said all that stuff, and not being able to live with Mattie hurt as well. When I finally did hang up, I was practically in tears. The police officer was concerned, but all I told him was that I couldn't stay with Matt. He took me back out and I ran into Matt's arms. I told them what happened on the way home. Mattie did his best to comfort me, but it wasn't really working. Like earlier.
