CHAPTER ONE:

WHO'S AT THE DOOR?

---------------------------------

Juliana's P.O.V.

"Jules, get your lazy ass out of bed," I heard an annoying voice say in my ear.

I rolled over to my back and looked at the ceiling. "What do you want, Carter? I was trying to sleep."

"We're going to go look for a Starbucks. I want some coffee," my college roommate said, grabbing my arm and pulling me out of my bed.

"Do we have to?" I moaned. "We just got here yesterday, and you already want to explore L.A.? Maybe you aren't as tired because your flight from Wisconsin wasn't as long as mine, which, may I remind you, was from across the country in Pennsylvania, but I want to sleep."

"Sucks for you. I want Starbucks."

"Can I have like 10 more minutes?"

"Fine." Carter walked over to the couch and sat down, taking her phone out, probably on Twitter.

That's sort of how we met. I commented on a gif on her GifBoom account when we were both 14, and we've been the best of friends ever since.

10 minutes later, she came back over to my bed. "It's been ten minutes."

I opened my eyes to see her standing there in her pink hoodie with her arms crossed, irritated. "Ugh. Fine." I slowly climbed out of bed and threw on a yellow Hollister t-shirt and skinny jeans. I brushed my hair and teeth quickly and put some mascara and cover-up on. I walked back over to her.

"How can you get ready so fast and look that good?" she whined.

"Shut up. I look like crap." I opened the door and we walked outside the dorm, headed towards the exit.

"I wonder if we're gonna meet any hot L.A. guys," she said.

"Even if we do, they'll probably go for you," I laughed.

"Stop lying. You're a hot guy magnet, Jules."

I rolled my eyes as we crossed the street into downtown L.A. "Do you have any idea where Starbucks is?"

"Nope."

I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. "Are you going to look it up?"

"Nope."

"Then I'm not going with you. Have fun getting lost."

"Jules!"

"Whatever." I walked over to where she was standing. "If we get lost, I'm blaming you."

"That's fine with me."

We kept walking along the street until Carter stopped. "Let's turn here."

I followed her and we walked until the next intersection. "Let's turn here too."

"But this just looks like a neighborhood. I doubt there's a Starbucks in here."

"Oh well." She turned and walked into the neighborhood.

I chased after her and we walked down the street a bit until we reached the circle at the end of the road.

"What did I tell you?" I smirked.
