"What the hell happened to you?" I asked, as I leaned on the doorframe of Alaric's office. I see Hope sitting down looking at the ascendant that was broken, she looks at me sighing.

"I just had the weirdest dream-,"

"Please, if it involves Landon, I really don't want to hear it." I said, making her chuckle lightly and she shakes her head.

"No, not like that." She says, rolling her eyes, "It's nothing."

"Well I thought we were both getting sleep, in our own beds. I mean that's what you said, or you slept with Landon which-,"

"First of all, I don't know what's going on with you and all that." Hope says, pointing to me and I rolled my eyes, "Secondly, I know for a fact you didn't get any sleep last night."

"Well you know me, not wanting to cause mass death across the country." I said, before plopping my file down on her desk, "Plus, I've tried to practice all this but nothing."

"What do you mean?" Hope says, grabbing the file and looking at it.

"That's the last thing Ryan gave to me before he..." I said, and she gives me a sad look but I cleared my throat, "Anyway, I don't know if I'm not doing anything right."

"It's probably going to be a lot of practice." Hope says and I looked at her.

"How's that holding up?"

"I was going to ask the same thing." I turn to see Landon walking in with a tray of food and coffee.

"Hey, what's all this?" Hope asked, as Landon places the tray down.

"Being useful to the most important people in my life. My girlfriend and best friend." Landon says and I smiled.

"Thanks Lan." I said, as he passes me a cup of coffee making me sit down on the couch indulging in it.

"Any progress?"

"Nope. Alyssa spelled it so every time I repair it, it just breaks again."

"And you can't unspell it?" Landon asked making Hope lightly smile, shaking her head.

"No, there's got to be something I'm overlooking."

"There is." We all turned around to see Dorian and a man in a suit enter Alaric's office. I wasn't going to lie and say he wasn't attractive, but there was also something off about him.

"You have the wrong ascendant." The guy says and I snickered lowly.

"And you are?" I said, looking at the guy with a raised eyebrow.

"Fam, meet Joshua." Dorian introduced, and I crossed my arms over my chest as I stood up.

"Hello."

"Old friend of Ric's. And drumroll please, he's also an expert on prison worlds." Dorian says, smiling, "I told him about our problem."

"Do you mind if I?" Joshua says, walking over to Hope as he looks at the ascendant. She nods reluctantly not before giving me a slight look, "Thank you so much. Wow, wow, it is in pieces."

"What gave that away?" I said sarcastically.

"Oh my, yeah." Joshua says, placing the piece to his ear gasping softly, "There's a linking spell on this. It produces a faint hum, like a melody if you know what to listen for." Joshua puts it to Landon's ear and he concentrates before shaking his head.

"Uh no." He mumbles.

"You clearly don't." Joshua says and Landon looks offended, "When the Saltzman's performed their spell on this ascendant, they were being tied to another. That witch of yours didn't send them to a new, empty prison world. She sent them somewhere far older and dangerous. And you're going to need my help."
