ETTA

Etta knew that she'd made good progress when she got back to Calum's without a trace of her tears left on her face. She didn't feel upset, all she felt was anger, and there was a lot, but it was an improvement of what she used to feel.

Sleep came easy that night, despite everything. Something about her encounter with Luke had calmed her, like it had offered her the tiniest bit of closure with the little snippets of information Luke had managed to give her. Granted, Etta wasn't really paying attention at the time, but now, in the quiet of her room, staring at the white ceiling, she was able to piece it all together.

Well, some parts. Other parts, she had to work out herself and only hope that she'd come to the right conclusion. It was all she had.

All of the information was broken, jumbled up, partly due to Etta's incessant interruptions, yet there there was one thing he said, in particular, that Etta just couldn't get out of her head.

"I liked you Etta, I really did, none of it was a lie, I swear."

And a part of her sensed that he was telling the truth.

Maybe it was because he said it with such conviction, or maybe it was just down to the fact that Etta desperately wanted to believe it, either way, she did, she did believe him, and while that was monumental in getting rid of all of her self doubt that had come when he'd ditched her, it wasn't enough to clear that hurt, to make her forget, to make her forgive.
