ETTA

The slight cramping in Etta's back slowly drew her out of her slumber. She knew why, knew that Calum had left her in Luke's room, and she'd rested her tear-stained face on the side of his bed, yet again and fell asleep to the sound of his heart beating slowly through the monitor beside his bed.

Her back was in bits from the amount of times she'd woken up in the same position, but Etta didn't care. She'd sacrifice her entire ability in return for a few more seconds to spend next to the man who owned her. Mind, body and soul.

Etta didn't want to wake up. Didn't want to open her eyes and face the awful reality she'd been thrown into, but there was something running across her cheeks, something stirring her further and further away from sleep. It was probably Calum, she'd thought, finding her in this same spot, yet again, and waking her up to tell her it was time to go back to her own room.

It didn't seem necessary for her to still be in the hospital, even if it was just for observation, but she was grateful for the extra time it granted her with Luke, regardless.

Something skimmed across her eyelid and up to her brown, then she felt fingers disappear into her hair, and her eyes glittered open of their own accord.

But when she was met with an empty hospital room, void of Calum hovering over her with that same, subtle apologetic smile on his face, Etta frowned. Because she was not imagining the hand running ever-so-tentatively through her hair.
