Ch 4: A lake

Amicia, her girlfriend and Hugo are great but can we take a minute to apreciate our boy Lucas? Thank you!

As they were crossing the main road, they saw a slim figure in the distance.

"Lucas!" Hugo screamed as soon as he recognized his friend.

"Hi there." Lucas kneeled down to examine Hugo's face. Not seeing any black veins he was about to stand up when Hugo threw his arms around his neck and hugged him. Surprised boy nearly fell back.

"I've missed you!" Hugo said "We were trapped at the camp with bad guys but then Melie came and rescued us...and then she said a lot of bad words."

"Can't deny..." Melie mumbled simply. She was busy looking for something...or rather someone.

"Yeah" Lucas said after freeing himself from a tight hug "I was worried about you too"

"Oh really?!" Melie said angrily "Better worry about yourself"

She grabbed him by the collar and dragged away from the other two. She pinned him to the nearest tree rather forcefully.

"Melie-!" Amicia started

"Relax, I won't bite him" Melie didn't loosen her grip

"You lied to us." She said through her teeth

"If I told you the truth you wouldn't help them." The boy said calmly

"Yeah! that's the whole point!" She said frustrated "We nearly lost our lives, they found our hideout! And now they are after us too!"

"I'm sorry for that but these two are very important for the whole world-"

"I don't give a shit about the world" she pushed him harder "I want my money AND MY BROTHER back!"

Lucas sighed "I'm sorry, really."

"I don't give a shit."

"Listen, we're going to an old castle. You can take anything you want from there. This may be your reward. And about your brother...I...don't know what to say..."

She growled and looked him in the eyes "Give me one reason for me not to kill you right now, right here!"

"You...you're not this kind of person." Lucas voice started shaking "And we need each other to run away from the inquisition."

The girl let him go.

"Let's keep moving then" she added angrily

To continue their journey they had to move from the beaten track.

When they were trying to figure out how to climb on a tall rock wall, Lucas tried to clear the air between him and the red-haired girl.

"Hey, it's Melie, right?"

"Hey, it's a dirty liar, right?" She said and quickly walked away.

When they reached the end of the road there was no castle, just a mountain slope.

"I don't understand." Amicia looked at Lucas "We've done everything for nothing?"

"No, no" the boy shook his head rapidly "Laurentius was smarter than that. He probably hid the answer in the riddle. Hmmm...'Gold is born from lead'...".He continued to recite his master's words.
