They were looking for Hugo days and nights, risking their own lives...but for nothing. The little boy was nowhere to find. After a week of searching they had to face the fact that the boy was gone. Everybody enjoyed Hogo's presence in the castle (even if they pretended not to) so the feeling of failure was crashing them from the inside. But it was time to move on so eventually each person returned to their normal life...except Amicia. She moved her bed to another room, she was avoiding any contact with the rest and she was constantly seen with tick, purple bags under her eyes. At first, they tried to help her but then, following Lucas' advice, they just let her be.

One day after lunch, Rodric wanted to talk to the rest so the other 3 circled him near the fireplace.

"You're probably wondering why I gathered you here. " Rodric said, holding a giant spoon "In few days November will come to an end. And that means..."

"That it'll be December?? " Arthur said

"EXACTLY!" Rodric pointed the spoon at him "And in December we have Christmas! And what a Christmas it would be without a supper. "

"Yeah, good luck making fancy Christmas supper with only apples and potatoes because we don't have nothing more than that. " Arthur crossed his arms

"That's why I suggest we go to the village and buy new food. " Rodric explained

"Are you nuts?! "Arthur's eyes widened

"Rodric has a point" Lucas said "I don't feel the urge to have Christmas food but we're getting short on supplies."

The group used to plant potatoes and leek in a castle's garden but since the snow had fallen, no more crops were able to grow at such a low temperature.

"Alright but..." Arthur took a second to come up with a decent argument "What about the rats?! As soon as it gets dark they are everywhere! And right now the sun is up for what...6 hours? There's no way we could go to the village and back in just 6 hours."

"Well" Melie started "That's doable too"

Her brother looked at her angrily.

"Tell us about your plan. " Lucas encouraged her

"We'd been going to the village on the east but there's also a small town on the south of the castle. The way there may be a little longer than but there is a hideout in the middle of the path. We could spend the night there."

"How do you know about the hideout? " Rodric asked

"We.. " she glanced at Arthur "We sort of lived there a long time ago."

"So we'd found a solution! " Rodric said happily

"But who is going? " Arthur said "Definitely not me."

"So me, Lucas-" Rodric started

"I'm sorry to break it to you, big man. " Melie said "But you're quite easy to spot. I'd say that no more than 3 people should go there. "

"Arthur is out, " Lucas said "Rodric too, I should stay here in case...you know Hugo came back and needed medicines. "

"So you and Amicia? " Rodric looked at Melie
