"I SIMPLY think it unwise for you to marry her, my dearest." Cersei coaxed her son gently, avoiding your eye. The irritation in Joffrey's expression grew, and you watched as an almost imperceptible twitch shook him. To hide it, he leaned back in the throne, mouth agape incredulously at his mother's insubordination.
"I am king, mother. I'll marry who I please." He hissed through gritted teeth.
"Of course, but you could marry any number of lord's daughters. Think of the alliances you could forge for yourself through marriage."
Cersei knew better than anyone the repercussions of her son's explosive arrogance. With your finely trained eye you watched her dance around her true objections to you by appealing to her son's lust for power. Joffrey remained silent, seemingly appalled by the way his mother continued to argue. Cersei incorrectly assumed his silence symbolized his willingness to listen.
"You haven't met any of them yet, what if one catches your eye? There are many beautiful and cunning girls that would make exceptional queens for you, my love." She began to approach the throne with soft steps, believing she was swaying her son.
"Catch my eye?" Joffrey roared indignantly, lurching forward in his throne. Cersei immediately halted her approach. "There will be no other discussion of suitors. I will marry (Y/N)."
His knuckles turned white as they gripped the arm rests.
"There is not another one for me, that is the end of the discussion, mother. (Y/N) will be my queen. I am not concerned with alliances, if they do not bend the knee willingly, I will make them. Their daughters are of no use to me. (Y/N) will be the one to sit by my side." His eyes flickered away from his mother to find your face.
You smiled softly, proudly up at him. Your heart swelled with the fervor with which he was willing to defend you. Cersei spared an irritated glance in your direction before marching out of the throne room.
