Deku's POV
It was just another day.
As I was packing up my things to leave, someone stopped me. "We aren't done talking yet, Deku," the person said roughly. I looked up to see Kacchan with my notebook in his hand. And he had two friends with him, that is if he even considered them as friends.
"Katsuki, what's that?" one of them asked, leaning over to get a better glimpse of the title.
"G-give that back," I stammered.
" 'Hero Analysis For The Future'. " he read out loud, before bursting into laughter. "Seriously? Midoriya..."
"I-it's fine, isn't it? Give it back!" I was desperate now. Why must they do this to me? Why must they make my life hell? Why can't I have dreams of becoming a hero even if I have no power?
Kacchan only smirked, activated his quirk, and smashed his fist against the front cover. To my horror, my notebook was burned. "That's mean..." I said in a small voice, terrified that he'd use his quirk on me. The front cover was singed, but before I could see the other damage, he had tossed it out the window. "W-what?" I yelped, helplessly.
He looked over me calmly and said, "Most top first string heroes have stories about them from their school days. I want the shine of being the only student here to make it into UA from this mediocre city junior high school." I felt myself trembling under his glare. "I mean, I'm a perfectionist," he continued.
Grabbing my shoulder he gives me a smile and says, "So anyway, don't apply to UA, nerd."
The next thing I knew, they were walking away, with Kacchan in the lead of course. "...he"s pathetic," I heard one of them say. "He still can't face reality."
Kacchan stopped and turned around to say, "If you want to be a hero that badly, there's a quick way to do it. Believe that you'll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof!"
"If you want to be a hero that badly, there's a quick way to do it. Believe that you'll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof!"
That hurt.
That idiot. If I had actually jumped, he would've instigated a suicide. That damn fool can't just say as he pleases...
As I made my way out, I found my notebook in a small pond thingy with three fish trying to eat it. Looking at it, I muttered, "That's not fish food, stupid. That's my notebook." Stupid. Just like the thought of a Quirkless boy being a hero. Just like my stupid dream...
---
"You can't be a hero!"
"You're quirkless!"
"What the hell can you even do anyways?"
"If you want to be a hero that badly, there's a quick way to do it. Believe that you'll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof!"Kacchan's words played on repeat in my mind over and over again on loop. The tears came to my eyes and I curled up into a ball on my bed.
I couldn't. I couldn't take it anymore.
I was tired of being Kacchan's punching bag. Tired of being someone who was always looked down on.
Who was I kidding? There's no way I could be a hero. I had no power. I couldn't even stand a chance against a real villain.
I'm so tired of it all.
Then an idea came to mind.
And it made me smile.
"It's okay, Kacchan. I won't be a hero. I can be the exact opposite..."
