"Twice a day, don't forget." The brunette, whose name I learned to be Maya, handed me the small pill bottle along with a duffel bag filled with clothing as she walked me into the room where the other campers were being held.
It had took some convincing and plastic smiles on my behalf for Dante to finally let me be with the rest of my people. Not that he was trying to keep me away from them, just the overwhelming fact that the poison flowing throughout my leg could cause many complications and the man had wanted me to be on standby as near the nurses as possible.
"Look who finally got released." Jasper greeted me, walking over and shooting the brunette beside me a shy smile which she returned before quickly averting her gaze to the floor.
Jasper noticed the pill bottle in my hands, knitting his eyebrows together before asking, "Is that for your leg?"
I glanced down at the pill bottle, remembering the nurse telling me if I didn't take them consistently, as I was supposed to, I was as good as dead. Since they lack the grounder resources for a cure, the pills slowed down the effects of the poison, which only postponed my inevitable death. How fun.
"Uh, yeah." I answered Jasper's question, looking back into his eyes with a reassuring smile, "Just some painkillers." I lied, not wanting to worry him. All the more reason I needed to get out of this place and find a cure myself before I dropped dead.
I looked around the full room, trying to change the subject once I saw all the bunk beds, "So, which one's mine?" I asked.
"You can bunk with me." Clarke's voice interrupted as the blonde sat up on the top bunk nearby. "Probably smarter for you to bunk on the bottom anyways." She made light of my situation with a smile.
I nodded, giving her a small smile back before walking over, placing my bag down on the bed.
I crossed my arms, glancing back at Jasper who was now occupied with Maya before turning back to Clarke.
"You wanna head to breakfast together?" I offered.
She nodded, jumping down from her bed before a loud wailing noise began to sound throughout the compound. I furrowed my eyebrows together, looking around to see the campers were just as confused and began to panic in the slightest.
I watched as Maya broke away from Jasper, turning towards the exit with a worried look on her face.
"Hey," I stopped her, standing in her way, "what the hell is going on?"
The girl looked at me hesitantly, her eyes wandering over to Clarke who she found intimidating. I didn't blame her, after all, I had heard while I was unconscious Clarke took it upon herself to get answers around here but her recklessness had affected Maya in a violent way.
Nevertheless, Maya had answered my question, "That signal means a surface patrol is back, and someone needs medical attention. I have to go to quarantine." She answered in a rush before storming off past me.
I immediately began to follow until Jasper stopped me, "Claudia, what are you doing?"
"Maybe they found survivors." I answered with hope, my mind wandering to the thought of Bellamy. Maybe that's why I was so determined.
Clarke stood by me in agreement, chiming in, "If our people are hurt, we have a right to know."
The blonde began to head after Maya as I followed without a second thought, breaking away from Jasper.
I jogged after Clarke down the long halls, ignoring the slight pinch in my leg as I did so, turning the corner to see Maya and a few other nurses and doctors dressing themselves in hazmat suits.
