The Dragon Crown

Chapter 5

The next morning, I get up and sneak out the window. I need some time to myself to think. I go over to the stable, "Good morning, Razor Beak. I'm going into the woods for awhile, your welcome to come with me." He squawked and followed me as I walked into the woods.

Leo's pov

"Jack, I'll be right back, I'm gonna go check on Emerald and see if she's up yet." "Alright, go ahead." I walk upstairs to Emerald's room and knock on the door. "Emmy, you up?" No answer. I hesitantly go in only to see she's gone. I notice the open window and rush back downstairs, "Jack, Emerald snuck out, I'm gonna go find her." "Ok, be careful." I nod and leave. I look in the stable to see that Razor Beak is also gone, at least she's not alone. I head into the woods to look for her.

Emerald's pov

I sat down in front of a spring with Razor Beak right behind me, so I could lay back against him. I sit there for awhile, thinking about what my sister said. After awhile, Razor Beak looks behind us and squawks. I look back to see Leo, "Emerald, there you are!" "Leo, what are you doing here?" "I came looking for you, I was worried when I saw you weren't in your room." "I'm sorry, I just needed to think awhile."

He came and sat beside me, "About what?" "About my sister." He looked at me surprised, "You have a sister?" I shook my head, "I used to have a sister...before she was killed." He gasped, "What happened?" "I...I don't really like to talk about my past, but, I suppose I should tell you." I sighed, "It all happened when we were very little."

Flashback

We were orphans, we lived on the streets and did what we had to to survive. We taught ourselves how to steal, in order to get things we needed, like food. We usually only got to eat small portions of plain bread. "Ruby, I'm tired of bread." "Don't complain so much, Emerald, one day, someone will find the Dragon Crown, and free everyone from the kings tyranny." "Tell me more about it, Ruby, please!" "Actually, I don't know that much about it, but there's a book in the castle library that tells all about it. Tonight, I'll get it for you, promise."

End of flashback

Leo stared at me, "Then what happened?" Tears welled up in my eyes, "She snuck into the castle library that night, but she was caught. The king showed no mercy, and had her executed." "I'm so sorry, Emerald." "I then left the town, and not long after, I found Razor Beak." Tears ran down my cheeks as Leo placed a hand over mine, "I had no idea you had been through so much, Emerald."

I turned toward him, wiping away my tears, and told him, "The opal showed me my sister, and she wants me to find the Dragon Crown before the king." He smiled, "I'll help you anyway I can, I'm sure Jack will too." I hugged him, "Thanks, but we need that book." "Let's go back to the Black Cat and figure out a plan." I nodded and blushed a little as he grabbed my hand and led me back to the cafe with Razor Beak following behind.
