*Farheen POV.*

I'm really hating this night, she can try to be nice as much as she wants but I don't want her. I don't think my mother needs to be replaced, I wish for them to reencounter in jannah. And I pray every day for that.

I left the dining room in the middle of dinner, I had showed my face already and they know pretty well what I think about all this.

I remove my shoes and step outside onto the cold ground in the balcony. I curl myself inside the egg chair as it starts swinging as I look at the stars.

They don't seem to be cheering me up today, I feel really crappy. I rest my head on the walls of the chair and listen to the melody of the sea. I try to pull some memories of my mother and all I can remember is her sweet smile, I wish I could remember more about her; but it was all vague and blurry in my head.

I hear some steps into the balcony and I open my eyes to see a container of vanilla and blueberry ice cream. "You are so sweet, Ilu. My favourite." I utter taking the ice cream as I attempt a smile.

"Really! Ilu?" A deep voice says and Zayn peeks inside looking at me frowning.

"You!" I exclaim surprised, how he knows my favourite ice cream. "What are you doing here?"

"Bringing you some ice cream to help you get over yourself." He has that annoying look on his face. "blueberries are your favourite."

"Who told you that?" I wonder why would he be so nice.

"You just said it. It was a wild guess." He says shrugging. "at least say thank you."

"Thank you, I thought it was Ilhaam." I say opening the ice cream and taking a spoon into my mouth.

"Ilhaam is giving rat's butt about you." He says leaning on the banister. "Too busy having a good conversation with your brother instead of taking care of a grumpy girl like you. I would do the same if I had to have a friend like you."

"Really! They are talking?" I say surprised, and ignoring what he said about me; during the past weeks they wouldn't say no more than salaam. And it was all because of my big mouth. I thought my awesome cupid plan had failed.

"Come and see for yourself." He says and I jog to the banister and see them seating on the sand at a fair distance which means that something is on.

"yes." I say and jump in victory dance. Zayn looks at me with a wonder expression across his face.

"Are you ok?" He asks provocatively and I stick my tongue out to him like a little child and sit back on the chair back to eat my ice cream.

I roll my eyes as the flavours just seemed to be enhanced now. "The night is not lost after all." I say and look at Zayn that has his eyes on me. "What are you looking at?" I ask harshly.

"There you are again, a pain in the-."

"What are you doing here?" I wonder and he pulls a face at my instant mood change.

"I was bringing you an ice cream to cheer you up."

"I mean in this house. It's a family dinner." I gesture.

"What is Ilhaam doing here it's a family dinner? And I'm more family than she is. I have been here forever. " He retorts and I just roll my eyes at him.

"she is welcome, you are not."

"Well I came because I knew she would be here." He says that I feel my body totally drained, he also likes Ilhaam? I don't understand my own disappointment.

"No you didn't." I try not so frenetic anymore.

"Of course I did." He says smirking at me. "In fact I'm just waiting for your brother to screw up, so that I can slide right in with a marriage proposal." He says and I swallow hard the ice cream in my mouth and start laughing like a lunatic.

"You are very funny. I'm not letting you." I defy him.

"why wouldn't you, she's so fine. Different from you, you should start eating seriously and being more sweet like Ilu." He says and my mouth just forms an 'O' looking at myself. "A lab could use you to study the bones anatomy." How dare he check me out? "Now, Ilhaam eats and has the cutest cheeks."

"You..." I say and never finish, I had nothing.

"Don't be jealous, Farheen." He says and chuckles.

"I'm not jealous. It's late shouldn't you be going home?" I demand. "Don't you have home, parents?"

"I don't have a curfew. Chill there." He says and winks I groan furious.

*Ilhaam POV.*

"It's a shame." I say to Fahmy, I know he was trying to contain his tears; guys playing that they don't cry, but I know this subject got him really sensitive.

Watching your parents fight all the time is not something you digest so easily, he has his childhood stained. "But don't let what happened mess you up."

"I had to find a way to get past all that, I got tired of all the classes and hobbies to keep me busy. I wanted friends, trips, parties at least that way I wouldn't wake up to memories of my parents yelling at each other." He says looking down at the sand, he hardly looked at me while he told me his side of the story. He was so ashamed of it, although none of it is his fault.

"There's only one way to get past that; offering prayer and reading the Qur'an. Pray your worries away, pray for your mother too. After all she is your mother."

"You don't understand that was not a mother. She was a draft project of a mother."

"I just think you should tell Farheen, because I can tell that that woman is dying to tell her that."

"She will hate us." He says shaking his head.

"Definitely, but will get over it eventually. She will understand that all her father did was for her own good." I say and smile, but he's still looking blankly down. "And also it was so cute the fact that you gave such a beautiful image of her." I say and he chuckles.

"My dad has his faults in that too."

"But still. You are a beautiful family and I won't let you fall apart. I will be here for all of you." I say in a smile and he looks at me surprised. I keep on grinning, he looks down and follow his gaze to find my hand on his.

I remove it and hold it to my chest. "I, I, I..." I stutter. "I think I should get going home." I say and stand up right away running inside.

*Farheen POV.*

The stepmother is gone; Sadiya informs me that I can stop hiding. I filled my lungs with air before releasing it, I was feeling suffocated with her presence.

I go in and find my dad sitting in the study on his arm chair. I seat to the arm of the chair and hug him. "I'm sorry." I utter.

"It's okay. I just wanted you to get to know each other before judging her." Dad says.

"I don't want you to get married again, you can't replace my mother."

"trust me, I don't intent to replace your mother." He says and I'm afraid I ruined the night for him.

"Please, don't." I say and watch Fahmy enter the study and join us in the hug.

"So much love from my children is frenetic." Dad utters.

"We should pray. Together." I say recalling how beautiful it was Ilhaam's family pray together whenever they can."A family that prays together stays together."

I say and pull away from the hug to see my father's grin. "You are always so smart." He says and I grin back. "Let's go." He says standing up.

"But first you I have a question." I say and they look at me attentively. "Where was mum going in the night of the accident?" I ask and all I get is two blank stares.
