Stella's POV

I watch my last appearance on the mirror which is hanging on the wall of my room. Yes, I can tell you that I've been allowed to go home ever since yesterday because my condition keeps getting better. And today, is the day where I have to practice for the last time before finally the day we've been waiting for comes.

It's still eight in the morning, and my Mom is nowhere to be found.

She must've gone to work.

I grab my favorite obsolete jacket before walking out of the house and locking the door. While I'm locking the door, there's an engine voice roaring loudly behind me. Curious, I turn on my heels to look who is it and find out a light blue sedan car parking in front of my house.

Before I could figure out who that is, the window of its driver door is being rolled down by the driver, and I can perfectly see a girl with square glasses, smiling her wide smile towards my direction.

"Sarah? What are you doing?" my brows create their own frown at what she's doing here.

"Sorry for not telling you before. But I've told your Mom that I'm gonna pick you up." Sarah flashes an apologetic smile to me, and I immediately nod in response because it's not completely her fault.

"But.. why?" I ask as I start approaching her car. Even with her glasses on, she still looks pretty, which actually makes me a little jealous.

"Cause your condition is not fully well and your Mom entrusts me for taking care of you," she says and pauses to take a breath before continuing, "Come in."

And eventually, I end up going to the school in her car. I'm actually glad to know that Sarah chooses to come here to pick me up rather than doing God-knows-what with her friends. Doesn't mean that I don't like her friends or what, but it just seems like most of Sarah's friends are popular and they tend to play with popular people like their kind too. And sometimes, it annoys the hell out of me because they're Sarah's friends and Sarah is my friend too.

"How are you feeling right now?" she begins the conversation once we've driven away from my house.

"It's honestly better than yesterday," I move slightly on my spot, trying to find the most comfortable position.

"I'm glad to hear that," she halts the car right when the traffic jam switches to the red lamp.

"Stella?" she asks without shifting her eyes from the road ahead.

"Hm?" that's the only response I could answer since I don't know what else to respond.

"I actually want to ask you something, but I think this is a little bit private," she bites her bottom lips slightly, and I can strongly guess she's nervous. Why does she have to be nervous, anyway? It's not like I'm going to eat her alive or something.

"Go ask. You don't have to bite your lips like that," I chuckle a bit as the suspense between us starts vaporizing in the morning air.

"Uhm, sorry for asking this but..." there's a pause before she continues her words, "Where's your father? I've never seen him nor heard you talking about him before."

I can feel my heart begins racing quickly as my brain freezes in a matter of seconds. It feels as if I couldn't think of a single word to answer her, really. I feel like all the parts of my body freeze right at the mention of father. The thought of her asking me about my father has never crossed my mind before. But I know sooner or later she'd ask me that thing, and I'd have to answer her.
