The picture shown is Charles! (Albeit a Charles who's a little old)

⍟ Chapter 3 ⍟

That night, I got ready and dressed for some mini golf, Charles definitely was warming up to me!

Internal squeal.

I swung open the door to my very small walk in closet and searched for an outfit that wasn't too over-the-top but yet not too underdone. I settled for dark grey skinny jeans, tucked in white button-up shirt and red converse. I reached for my phone and decided to text Anne, I had yet to find out where she went, her and Xavier probably snuck off somewhere while Logan and Charles talked.

Just as I was typing in my text, I got one from her first, the best friend telepathy of ours never ceased to freak me out a little.

What should I wear? My converse or my blue flats?- Anne

I rolled my eyes before typing my response, I don't understand why she needed to dress to impress, her honeymoon faze was over after the first year for sure!

The converse we're mini golfing, Anne.

I threw the phone back on the bed and glanced over to the mirror possibly for the third time and checked my messy bun. I then checked the time, I had 15 more minutes until Anne would pick me up. And to think that I hadn't wanted to go, but one thing had changed my whole look on this, one person. This was unhealthy, obsessing over a person and changing your view of life for them could not be good. Suppose something ruined the whole thing- you wouldn't be able to enjoy it anymore. Like 500 Days of Summer, one moment he loves a song, then next moment he despises it. I didn't want to end up like that. I couldn't believe I was saying it but, I was actually looking forward to asking Charles, it would end any suspicions and I'd have a legitimate reason to get over it.

My discouragement was interrupted by a high pitched honking coming outside. I ran down the steps into my empty living room, usually lively with my mom and dad dancing to Frank Sinatra. I rolled my eyes at the mere thought of them, they'd be back in 2 days from now. My freedom had a limit.

I left my orange trimmed house making sure to lock the door and skipped down the steps into Anne's old mustang.

Sliding into the seat I glanced down at her outfit, she looked cuter than ever, all dolled up for her boyfriend. How cute.

"You're ridiculous," was all she said.

I looked at her shocked, "What're you talking about?"

She motioned to my outfit, "You could be dressed up as a hobo and the guy would still think you're hot."

I chuckled, "Oh so you're saying he has a hobo fetish? And plus, what about you? Xavier has thought you were hot for at least 2 years now," then I remember, "and speaking of him, where did you guys sneak off to during lunch?" I practically shouted.

She flinched then laughed, "We didn't sneak off anywhere," she stated, "we announced that we had to go to the library, Charles and Logan said okay and you just kind of nodded with some weird blank stare," she laughed some more. Then she started the car and we were off to the mini golf course.

Blank stare? What if Charles had noticed, that boy was flawless and I had so many flaws you couldn't count them on your own hands, you'd have to use your toes and someone else's toes. Oh my god, did I have a blank stare now? I snapped out and noticed Lonely Hearts Club by Marina and the Diamonds was playing on the radio.

"My anthem," I mumbled making Anne giggle and pat my head sympathetically.

"Charlie will fix that soon," she teased.

We soon pulled up to the gates and there the perfect boy stood with Xavier to his side. They were both so gorgeous as they talked about whatever seemed important, I glanced over to see Anne smile to herself and get out of the car. Expecting her to run up to her boyfriend I was definitely shocked to see her kick him in the shin and him allowing her to. I hurried out of the car to hear the beautiful noise also known as Charles's laugh, so infectious I was forced to laugh along.

"What just happened?" I ask in between laughs.

Anne smiled triumphantly and placed her fists on her hip, "I won a bet!"

"It doesn't really matter what it's about," Xavier said straining as he rubbed at his shin.

After a few more giggles we headed inside and then were greeted by a girl we'd seen at school before behind the counter, but I couldn't remember her name. "Oh hey guys!" She said giddily, "um, welcome to Put-Put Palace," then she smiled at Charles and I knowingly and I started to fidget. Was it obvious that I liked him or something?

Charles then playfully nudged me, what for? I didn't know. Was there something that I wasn't getting?

"We'll take," Anne trailed counting the people in her head, "4 clubs," and then the girl handed us each a club and we made our way to the 1st hole.

Xavier went first and made it into the hole on the first try, he then turned to Anne but she only scoffed playfully. Then next came her turn, she hit it too hard and it bounced back past where she was standing making her wail in disappointment. I laughed as I took my turn, she flipped me off and I made a heart with my hand.

I contemplated pretending that I didn't know how to play so that Charles would take my hands and guide me. But then I thought about the fact that I was always day dreaming about Charles so I mentally shook my head and concentrated on the hole a few feet in front of me. I took a swing and made it on the first try too, I stuck my tongue out at Anne as Xavier reached to give me a high five.

Then it was Charles's turn and I silently prayed he was good, because if he sucked at mini golf who knew what else he'd suck at. He took a swing and it was oh so very graceful making it into the hole very gently. Why god?

"Whoo hoo! We're all awesome except for Anne," I say winking her way

"Oh whatever, you're gonna regret that next truth or dare," she smiled deviously and then turned to Charles sweetly asking, "do you want to join?"

He seemed to really think about, "Well, I'm not sure, should I be scared if I say yes?"

Xavier then chuckles and violently nods yes while I just kind of smile sympathetically. Anne then grabbed his hand and skipped over to her purple golf ball, "I'll take that as a yes, now be a dear and make this into the hole for me." Her boyfriend stood seemingly unaffected besides a subtle raise of his eyebrow.

Charles obliged with a small smile playing on his lips. Once in, Xavier, Charles, and I all walked ahead to the 2nd hole while Anne slowly picked up her ball and caught up to us. The night continued on, the holes getting more difficult the higher we got, the 10th being the hardest. Xavier got a hole in one in all 10, Charles and I got most, and Anne got one in since she usually just made one of us put it in for her. At the end, the boys left together I shyly waved bye to Charles as he climbed into the car and Anne kissed Xavier on the cheek after telling him something I couldn't quite hear.

Once the boys pulled away I slumped into my seat and mumbled nonsense. Anne only looked at me like I was some weirdo before asking, "What is it now?"

"You got more action with Charles than I did," I whined.

She rolled her eyes, "Holding the guy's hand is not "getting action," she stated starting the car.

I slouched in my seat and turned the radio louder, Uprising by Muse was playing and I tapped my finger on my phone to the beat. Then it vibrated making me jump a little, expecting it to be Blaine or Elliot sending me some suggestive text about Charles and I, I checked it very cautiously.

But it was some weird number:

Darn, I forgot to hug you goodbye, I guess I owe you one- Charles.

I squealed internally of course, me being the pathetic lonely teenage girl I was.
