Chapter One

As I boarded the Boeing 67, my chunky fila shoes tapped against the metal frame of the tunnel onto the airplane. I could hear my mother shouting at Olympia and Eucalyptus from the boarding area, as I pumped up my volume on my ipod, to drown out my siblings bickering. Just as I stepped into the aircraft, Pandora bumped into my shoulder, as I took a sip of my diet root beer.

"Watch it vlákas"

"Gáidaros" She snorted, pushing in front of me down the narrow aisle.

"Dibs not sitting next to Demos" I called after her

Demos was only 3 years old and plane rides made him extremely cranky. He puked on almost everyone who sat beside him, making him a bit of a hassle, not to mention screaming and crying during basically the whole flight.

As I swung my carry on under my seat and pulled out my laptop, I tried to mentally prepare myself for the thirteen hour flight ahead. Usually I don't mind long flights, but I hadn't taken a gravol this morning, and I didn't know if I was going to make it.

That is until I realized the airplane TV had the two Mama Mia movies, and the complete Pirates of the Caribbean series (My two favourite series of movies of all time"

Just as I began to procrastinate, Pandora plopped down beside me,  Eucalyptus sitting right behind us with Olympia.

"What are you watching?" Pandora leaned over just as I pressed play on "Mama Mia!" "Oooo I love that movie" she said as she leaned back into her seat, and pulled out a bag of MnMs, less than a millisecond before Olympias hand shot out between the seats.

Pandora dumped a little bit into her hand and pressed play on "The Matrix", just as I settled into my seat, getting ready for the long flight ahead...

The warm Greek sun shone down on me as I stepped out of the airport. We still had a two hour bus drive ahead of us, from the beautiful Athens to my home town, Nafplio. Tourism wasn't at its peak in late June, so the streets were fairly quiet this afternoon.

"Olympia, will you grab my wallet from my bag?" I asked, spotting "O ouranós se éna mantíli" My all time favourite chain of greek restaurants. The famous bakery sold their one of a kind puff pastry donuts, drizzled in honey and yogurt, topped with chunks of coconut and chocolate. Popping one of those into your mouth was like swallowing a piece of heaven, and all of Greece went crazy for those things.

Just as Olympia handed me my black and green wallet, my mom came thundering out of the airport, all four suitcases in hand, and Demos atop her shoulders.

"Mamá!" Pandora rushed over to snatch Demos off of his perch and grab one of the bags "Careful!"

"Never mind" She tsked at my sister, pulling her phone out of her back pocket. "Go find our bus. Nan wants us at her house by five thirty. She said as her gaze shifted to me. "Which means NO O ouranós se éna mantíli. There is one in the village. We can get some there."

She picked up a brisk speedwalk, as her black heels clicked against the pavement. "Geia sou! Pick up the pase!" She said as she practically chucked her travel guide at my head. "We are going to be late, Chelóna"

"Mama, we're going to gate 43." Pandora said, coming to a slow stop and switching Demos to her other hip. "We need to go the other way."

"Our bus leaves in 5 minutes."

"There's no way we're gonna make it."

"Pick up the fucking pase!"

"Eucalyptus! Don't swear!"

"Let's go, people!"

2 hours worth of chaos, and 10 minutes later we finally made it to our bus. Turns out two other families were late as well, so the driver decided to wait an extra 15 minutes. Stepping on to the air conditioned bus, Pandora budged her way by me and sat down in the window seat, Eucalyptus and Olympia in front, and Demos now on my moms lap.

"'I'm gonna use you as a pillow k?" Pandora said softly, as she snuggled into my shoulder. Pandora and I were twins, and right from birth had been best friends. My mom liked to joke that we were joined at the hip, even though our interests didn't really align. She loved horror movies, they made me sick and stressed. I loved sports, she was a couch potato. The list goes on, but the only things we both went insane for was Shawn Mendes, and romance. She was convinced we would both find our prince charming this summer, even though I had my doubts. I was never miss popular but then again, maybe this could be a fresh start? I closed my eyes and drifted off to the rumbling of the bus as it drove over gravely side roads, and Miley Cyrus screaming in my ear. I had this weird feeling as I settled into the blue and orange seats of the air transat bus-this feeling of...hope? I don't know what it was, but deep down I knew that this summer was going to be one hell of a break.
