"And after school go straight to the studio. Do you understand Rebecca?" My mother asked as I was trying to leave. "Yes mother." I replied. Agreeing with her made everything so much easier. I was wearing the classic VHS uniform (I went to a private school that focused on the arts because my parents wanted me to focus on dance not on anything else...) and walked out of the house and straight to my car (BMW, whether I would admit it or not, I was very fortunate to have the life I was given). But before I left I looked in the mirror and fixed my shoulder length blonde hair. If I was going to be bored for a couple of hours, at least I'd look cute doing it.
Once I parked my car, I had to rush to get to class on time and sat next to my two best friends that I had in this morning class. The bell had rung moments after I walked through the door. "So did you talk with your mom again?" Brittani asked curiously. I nodded my head and sighed glancing around the room to see our teacher hadn't even shown up yet. "She wants me to give up my entire life for dance and I just don't want to do that. I go to the studio as much as possible and when I'm not there I'm doing homework. The only reason we get to hang out is because we all have the same core classes and can do homework together." I pointed out spinning my pen around in my hand. "Well, just think, two weeks of classes and then we all get to go to London on that vacation." Lex said with a smile. At the beginning of the year we had all managed to talk our parents into letting us go to London after this school year was over. The deal was we would go for the summer to find work in our fields (dance, music, or theater) and if we didn't we'd come home and go to college.
"Ms. Martinez isn't even coming to dance class this afternoon. Let's skip." Brit suggested as we came to a stop outside the locker room. I had been taking dance classes since I was three so anything I learned in these classes was just review. "If we get caught do I get to blame you?" I asked. I wasn't opposed to skipping, but I knew we'd get in trouble if we got caught. "No! If we get caught I'm blaming it on you! Just say you went to the studio because your mom always goes for that one." She said. I shrugged and thought about it for a moment. "Eh, okay. I've used that one a lot this week but whatever. Let's go before someone catches us and stops us!" I squealed grabbing her hand and pulling her toward the door.
"Where did you two go? We were supposed to study for finals together!" Kat yelled as soon as I answered my phone. She was one of our other friends and would be coming with us to London this summer along with our other friend Megan. "Didn't feel like staying for dance class. Why? What's wrong?" I asked sitting up on the floor. Brit and I were both out of breath from working on different combinations to work on our form.
"Tommy was going to ask you out!" She squealed causing me to pull the phone far away from my ear.
"You mean Tommy the totally hot singer that every girl wants? God why does Becca always get the cute ones!" Brit whined taking my phone and placing it on speaker.
"Because she's amazing. But now he's nervous because he thought you found out he wanted to ask you out and were avoiding him." She explained.
"I wasn't, but it's fine. Look, I'll talk to you later, my mom's calling me and you know that's never a good thing..." I muttered hanging up and making the decision to ignore her call. I could deal with it later... "So... Tommy... I mean, I know I said he's cute but you know he doesn't do serious relationships right?" Brit asked sounding concerned. I nodded my head and shrugged. "I don't want a relationship anyway so it's fine. I would have turned him down." I pointed out.
"Where were you this afternoon Rebecca! Your teacher called and said you didn't show up to class!" My mother scolded catching me before I could make my escape to my bedroom. "I went to the studio with Brittani." I said crossing my arms. "You go to the studio with Brittani all the time and neglect your classes! If you're going to be so reckless what's the point of paying for it!" She scolded. "I don't know! It wasn't my idea to be in private school!" I threw back. I know I probably should have just kept my mouth shut but I was tired of constantly being told everything I was doing wasn't good enough. "Fine. Pack your bags. If you want to act like an adult then I'll send you somewhere where you'll have to learn for yourself." She said standing up and walking away. "What?" I asked chasing her to the stairs. "If you want to make a mess with your life fine. But I'm not going to watch it happen. You're going to London early. You need to grow up and it's obvious you won't do it here." She snapped leaving me absolutely speechless.
