Almost 10 minutes later, they were pulling Mal out of the car on a backboard and with a neck stabilizer on. Tobin and Christen were told that they were allowed to ride in the ambulance with Mal. Once they were loaded in, Tobin and Christen sat on the right side Mal. Mal held onto Christen's hand as tight as she possibly could.
After the EMT started an IV he began assessing the injuries. He agreed with his coworker that Mal had broken her collar bone. He grabbed a sling and after a painful minute Mal's arm had been secured.
He pulled up her shirt and was met with an angry bruise forming on her lower left stomach onto her hip. Tobin and Christen looked at eachother with confusion.
"Jess, alert the doctors that when we get to the hospital, we're gonna rush her for an MRI. I think she might have some internal bleeding" the EMT told his coworker.
15 minutes later the ambulance pulled into the ER bay. Mal still held Christen's hand as tight as humanly possible. They carefully unloaded the stretcher and started taking her inside. Inside the ER, the doctors told Christen and Tobin that they needed to take Mal back to get an MRI but they would keep them updated. At some point, Kelley had met them in the ER. Mal and Christen hadn't even realized. Kelley stood off to the side with her arms tightly holding Tobin to her. Hearing that they would need to split up, Mal began to cry.
"Mal, look at me. Remember what I said earlier when I left the car? I said Tobin and I aren't going anywhere. We aren't leaving this hospital until you do. You're gonna be okay. You are so so brave. I love you" Christen told the younger girl.
"I love you too" Mal said in between shaky breaths before Christen kissed her cheek and started walking away.
"Wait Christen" Mal called back. Christen turned and faced the girl to hear what she had to say.
"After my parents died, I made you my medical power of attorney. You're my closest thing to family. Chris, I don't want to be a vegetable" was the last thing Mal said before they rolled her away.
