Soldier Boy

mama warned me to stay away from them soldier boys –

"them boys are players" she slurred

those dough boys smoke, spit, chew black smog

mama warned me to stay away from them soldier boys –

and those warning bells rang

and the church's bells sang

and the rivers ran red with the dead

mama warned me to stay away from them soldier boys –

but one stole my heart away

and then he took it far far away

when he signed himself across the bay

mama warned me to stay away from them soldier boys –

cause her soldier was her life

and mama's boy wrote his name off causing her strife

mama warned me to stay away from them soldier boys –

and my shell-shocked boy came home to me.
