I pray you don't have to pull the sleeves of your top to hide the lines imprinted in the skin of your hands.
I pray you don't have to adjust the hem of your skirt or pant to refrain from showing too much skin.
I pray you don't have to bite your lip to hide the lip swelling from hard slaps.
I pray you don't have to wear your hair a certain way to cover the bump on your forehead.
I pray you don't have to ice your swollen face to hide the bright red slap marks.
I pray you don't have marks on the inside of your palms from all the times you clenched your fists too hard.
I pray you don't have to sacrifice your happiness for someone else's ego and power.
I pray that you don't have to place peace over your self respect.
I pray that the scars of a sadder past don't ruin your chances at a better future.
I pray that you don't go around with a rubber band worn like a bracelet just so you get something to fiddle with that's maybe not a knife or a blade.
I pray you never look at a knife or a razor blade or a pair of scissors and ever think of them as more than just utilities.
I pray you don't have to ever live lives like this.
But mostly i pray for those who do live lives like this.
I pray for those people to stay strong.
I pray that they find someone who'd help them.
I pray that they get help.
I pray that they get the love and care they rightfully deserve.
I pray that they're okay.
I pray that I'm okay.
