Cinder
A few days of going to Death Academy and studying once I'm home I pretty much have the knowledge down. I'm able to raise my hand and answer all the questions in class. Mr. Undertaker is quite impressed with my progress. I don't really hang out with Jack but I do sit with him. Mostly people here leave me alone and that was Jacks way of paying me back for helping him, mostly.
I sigh as I stand in front of a group of killers, "listen, I'm just trying to go home."
"Oh she's just wanting to go home," one of the guys say as he pushes me. "Tell me, why we should care?"
I shrug and sigh again, "I don't bother you so don't bother me."
One of them slices out with a knife and cuts my arm. I grip it as I hiss in pain and fall to my knees.
The boy cackles with pleasure as he licks my blood off his knife. "Killing you would be so much fun~"
Suddenly I hear a loud whistle of something something slashing through the air. A huge curved blade is now around the back of the boys neck, "give me one reason I shouldn't end you right now."
The boys eyes widen in fear as he looks at the boy now stepping in front of me protectively. The other boys scramble back afraid.
"T-the Death box," the boy whispers out.
Jack laughs insanely, "that old thing? It may suck ass to be in it, but painting the walls with your blood may be worth it."
The boy gulps as he frantically looks towards his buddies for help but they just huddle away from him shaking viciously. I look up at Jack, is he really that terrifying? Why are the others so afraid of him?
"Well now Jacky boy!" A sickly sweet voice calls out, "you know the rules~! Are you going to actually kill him? Oooo this is so exciting!! My Death box hasn't had any victims in awhile."
He turns his head to look at the Warden herself, "tch. What are you doing here wench?"
She pouts as she holds up her hands with a sigh, "now that's not nice!" She glances at me and gasps, "now my dear lil doll, what happened here?"
I blink at her, man this woman is something else. I don't even know how to react her. Her eyes scan the scene before her, from the blood seeping through my fingers to Jack's scythe around the boys neck. And as her eyes fall on the knife on the floor, I hadn't even realized until now that he had dropped it, her face changes from one of joy to one that would make even the toughest man cower.
"You hurt my doll?" She snaps as she stares down the boy. "Now I can't have that." She storms up to him, easily knocking Jacks scythe out of the way and slams her whip across his face. "At least wait until the death race to try and hurt my little psycho doll! NOW EVERYONE GO HOME AND GET SOME REST!"
I pull myself up to my feet and start walking down the hall, leaning on the wall for support. Anything to get away from the insane woman who runs this school. The cut is pretty deep, but I'm sure I can make it home at the least.
"Tch, man you're more trouble then you're worth," I hear from behind me before I snatched up bridal style. "Let's get you out of this school."
I glare at Jack and huff, "no one asked you to help me. So don't go saying I'm trouble."
He rolls his eyes while he continues carrying me, "Just shut up or something."
I grumble under my breath and he cracks a smile, "not what I meant but ok."
When we get outside he sits me down on my feet before trapping me between him and a tree, "tell me everything, and I mean everything, the files you got said about those boys."
I stand there and think for a minute before quoting off everything in their bio. Names, weapons of choice, summary and even their addresses.
His eyes narrow as a wicked grin spreads across his face, "so she even has where they live down. Hmmm what about mine?"
I'm not quite sure why he wanted their information, but being curious about his own is understandable. I tilt my head to the slide, "no she doesn't have anything like that on you. Just Jack as your name, your age and a slight summary. It says your real identity is unknown."
He hums out happily, "good. That's the way I want it. I'm actually shocked the wench doesn't know, to be honest." He steps back releasing me from the tree. "Ah well. C'est la vie bitch." He grins evilly towards the school. "She'll get hers one day. No one puts me in the death box and gets away with it."
I tug on the sleeve of his jacket and he hums in acknowledgment, "what is the death race and death box?"
He looks at me shocked, "the cow didn't tell you?"
I shake my head, "no and they're not in the files either except a few mentions of them."
He shakes his head as he sighs, "you're in a world of shit kid when it comes to the death race." He rubs the back of his head, "it's the only time us students can kill each other. Two or more classes go after each other in a death trap course." I gulp, not liking the sound of that, and he continues, "The Death box is a torture chamber device. It usually kills people. Few cases survive it." The look on his face as he talks about it is fear mixed with anger.
"And you're one of those cases?" I ask piecing that much together on my own.
He grins at me, "of course. Its hard to kill true crazy."
I smile back at him, "that's good to know. Especially if you're going to go around making enemies by protecting me."
His grin turns deadly, "you should fear for their lives, not mine. Will you make it home ok?" He asks looking to my arm in concern.
I cast a glance at the bloody mess, "eh, it's just a scratch. I should be fine, don't worry." I smile up at him reassuringly.
He looks at me curiously and I swear that look rings a bell in my head, but I can't put my finger on it. He shakes his head, "Then get going."
I nod and wave at him with my uninjured hand as I head towards the town. As I approach the cafe thunder crashes from the sky and I grimace. I stumble towards the stairs, I'm so close... just a little further. I make it to the stairs and barely start climbing them when my head starts spinning. I collapse on the steps and curse my luck.
As if a karmic joke on me, rain drops start falling down on me. I can't even open my eyes due to my weakness. Maybe I should've had someone patch up my arm first. So this is how it ends, huh? Bleeding out in the rain, I could think of worse ways then this.
I hear someone sigh as I'm lifted up off the steps. "You really are more trouble then you're worth, you know that?"
Jack...? But that didn't sound exactly like him. Before I can figure out what's going on I fall into a deep unconsciousness.
Who do you think has her? 👀👀 do you think it's a friend or foe?! Lemme know what you think so far and what you think will happen next!
