When Thalia flew over to Annabeth's house, she looked inside Annabeth's bedroom window to see that she was still asleep.
"Seriously!?" Thalia asked, rolling her eyes as she flew into Annabeth's house. "Annabeth!"
"Huh?" Annabeth asked, her curly blonde hair falling in front of her face.
"Remember what's going on today?" Thalia asked, taking sweetness.
Annabeth's grey eyes widened as she realized what happened. "I did it again, didn't I?"
"Uh... Yeah."
"Oh no!" Annabeth said worriedly, quickly flying around her room as she gathered the things she would need for her job. Thalia grabbed her flower crown and handed it to Annabeth as the two flew out the door. Only when they were about one fourth of the way to their destination did Annabeth think to ask, "How did you get into my house?"
"Your mother left the door unlocked. And even then, your family usually leaves the doors unlocked. No thieves here."
"No thieves unless you count the Stoll Brothers." Annabeth said sarcastically.
"We don't count them since they live on the other side of the city." Thalia said, laughing a bit as the two kept flying side by side. "You know, Luke kept asking about you last night."
"You vaguely mentioned that last night."
"He's worried about you."
"Yeah right." Annabeth said sarcastically, readjusting her flower crown on her head as she kept flying next to Thalia. "He's King Poseidon's head advisor. He has other more important things to worry about than me."
"Not true." Thalia said, feigning disbelief. "He cares about you, just like he cares about me. We all used to be friends when we were younger."
"Yeah. When we were younger."
"He's practically our brother."
"Do I hear you two talking about me?" A voice asked. Annabeth turned around to see Luke flying towards them, his dark blue wings shining in the morning sun as he fell in line with them.
"Yes, you do." Thalia said, smirking at Luke.
"That sure was some party last night. Wish you were there, Annabeth." Luke said, nudging Annabeth's shoulder, accidentally shoving her closer to Thalia.
"Parties... Aren't really my thing." Annabeth said, avoiding Luke's gaze.
"Well, they could be if you just out down your books every once in a while."
"Luke, everyone here already treats me like a pariah because I want to be anywhere but in Halfling. I just... Don't fit in here."
"You know, I worry about not fitting in too."
Annabeth snorted, rolling her eyes. "Yeah right. You work for King Poseidon. You've never had to worry about fitting in a day in your life."
"I still worry. You know, you just have to... Jump in some times."
"Thalia! Annabeth!" A voice yelled. Annabeth looked in front of her to see Silena waving the two down. "You two are late!"
"We gotta go." Thalia said, grabbing Annabeth's hand.
"Right. I'll see you two at the ball tonight, right?" Luke said, smiling as he flew away to go mingle with another group of fairies.
"Took you two long enough." Silena chided, her sparkly pink wings shimmering in the sunlight as she practically dragged Thalia and Annabeth into the house that she shared with her half sister, Piper. Annabeth looked around the main room to see Piper talking to Silena's best friend, Clarisse.
